Evening all. I am considering buying a VW Eos with the Turbo petrol engine. Are there any known issues with them particularly the complicated roof mechanism. I am concerned about the potential bork factor of the roof. How many motors are there in the mechanism, would it be expensive to repair.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

many thanks

The roof squeaks a lot. Be prepared to treat the seals regularly to stop this. Other than that the flex and scuttle shake is laughable, and the car is compromised by a very small boot (even when the roof is up) and not much space in the back. I had one for about 4 weeks and hated it.

Leaking roofs plus all the usual MK5 Golf platform issues.

They are good value for money though particularly when compared against a Scirocco.

Thanks for replies chaps, consider me well and truly put off! Will stick with looking at tintops! Thanks again.

I'm surprised to read of so many problems, I thought the EOS got really good write ups.

Like most things on here the problems probably do occur on a few cars, but get blown out of proportion and turn into internet myth to be mentioned at every question. I doubt its any better of worse than any equivalent Renault, Pug or Vauxhall tin top convertable.

SO a proper soft-top is still better then?

ie a Golf Convertible or A3 Convertible would be better than an EOS for example?

Without a doubt I'd say.
