Need replacement turbo for 2.0TDI Toledo

Have 140BHP 2.0tdi engine (2007 Seat Toledo Sport Special Edition). Car runs ok but turbo whistles like mad when accelerating. I realise some people love a super loud turbo/dump valve noise but I don’t like to attract that kind of attention. Car recently serviced and mechanic reckons nothing to worry about, just possibly some carbon material damaged the inside a bit. Has affected the way it sounds but not really the function.

Maybe I am imagining it but the speed seems to be a bit jerky, not sure.

Can I please get the best place to get a great priced original VAG turbo for my car (new or spare from a salvaged car) or is it just cheaper to keep the turbo but have the offending part replaced?

Are you sure it isn't a boost leak? That IMO would be a much likelier source of "whistling" than the turbocharger itself.

Well I can’t say for sure and won’t disregard the insight provided, but the mechanic runs a business that specialises in mechanics/electronics on all cars, but a lot of high-end ones too, so I would have thought he knows what he is talking about (not always the case I am sure).

I might just hang on and monitor for a while and if I need to take the car in for something else I might mention the other suggested cause and see what he comes up with.
