You can turm it off using the dash display and the assist settings menu.

I've had a couple of instances where its activated on me with no real reason to, so will generally turn it off unless I'm using cruise control.

No, it really isn't. It cries wolf with a sound warning far too often, applies the brakes very rarely and doesn't as I have unfortunately just proved actually stop a very slow speed bump anyway (Whilst remaining hugely vulnerable to the same minor impact)

What is its default setting?

i.e., if you disable it does it re-enable itself on next ignition cycle ?

Oh yes indeedy, it can be disabled in the car menus (Not without some fuss) but as soon as the ignition is off its back.

Had my GTi a few months now other than the occasional dash warning its never slammed the anchors on itself.
