The rubber housing on these is perishing according to my MOT so will get them fixed asap. Garage quote about 700 quid. Do the units come as one so you can't just by the rubber bushes? This is at an indy not Audi garage.

Recently had this pop up on a PPI I had of a car. The seller was keen to point out that you could buy the bushes for a mere £20 plus VAT. I asked my Indy and the local Audi dealer what the cost would be to fix worn bushes (ie I didn't try to steer them either way as to how to fix it).

My Indy volunteered that replacing just be bushes was a "time consuming and nightmare job". They quoted for replacing the arms. The local Audi dealer also quoted to replace the arms without mentioning the possibility of replacing the bushes.

Seemed to me that if you were handy and prepared the spend your own time doing it, then replacing just the bushes might be an option. Otherwise the arms had to be done.

I was quoted (by the Indy) 180 per forward facing arm, 162 per rear facing arm, and a total of 1100 plus VAT. The Audi dealer quoted just for the forward arms (same price) with labour at 522 (inc of VAT) to do them - a total of around 950 inclusive of VAT.

HTH. .

Thanks Greg so it seems about right what is being quoted then. Also getting new tyres which they have quoted massively competitively so not all bad.

The issue with just changing bushes is that they don't replace the ball joint at the other end, so you will often only put off an inevitable replacement of the whole arm for considerably more cost in the long term.

Watch the quality of the parts being used by an Indy - there's a world of difference between euro car parts type stuff and the genuine article. Meyle HD I have personal experience of on an S8 and I've been happy with them

Thanks Adrian. They are buying the parts off Audi so will be fine. Looks like I may be selling it soon too unfortunately (especially having done the work on it and the tyres!)but I suppose it will be a great buy for someone.
