Hey
I have a set of old Michelin pilot sport tyre waiting to go on the rs4 and so just need two more, the problem is they dont make the pilot sports anymore.
I was thinking the 2 old pilot sport tyres on the rear and the new replacement (pilot sport 3) on the front
do you see this being a problem ?

edit: topic typo & = 7 smile

I'm sure if you do a bit of trawling, you can locate some ps2's

When you say old, what's the build date on the tyres? If you don't know how to check I can let you know. If they're new and over 5 years old I'd question the decision to fit them to an RS4, if they're part worn maybe less so as they'll last less time.

The original Pilot Sport is a directional tyre - the products that followed incl the PS2 are not. The Super Sport has a completely different construction using a kevlar belt and Michelin don't recommend mixing them with PS2s, never mind the original. I had a pair of Super Sports and PS2s on my S8 for about 6 months without issue but mine's a wafter not a B road weapon so I don't explore the limits of tyre grip very often!

Why not just put new tyres on it all round?

not 100% but there is a box showing 3413 - just double checking they where still actually being made then

the tyres where from my 2nd car and now just sitting in my home - Ive only used them for 1-2 weeks non demanding driving so practically new

That's week 34 of 2013 - they can't be directional then. Assuming you know you bought them after that date then they're fine, obviously
