I've got a mk5 golf, fitted with this head unit...

...with the 6cd changer in the armrest.

I've got hold of an iPod dock to replace the CD changer, but I can't for the life in me get the head unit and iPod to talk to each other.

CD changer works fine, so its not the cabling, and I get the logo on the iPod screen briefly, but it doesn't stay connected.

I've done a restore on the iPod (a 30gb iPod video), I have one playlist of about 30 tracks, named CD1, but nothing happens when I press the CD button on the head unit, once or twice, it just stays on the internal CD screen saying no audio CD inserted.

I do have the option to switch to aux input, but I don't think that's anything to go with it.

Any pointers? Is my old iPod not old enough?

Thanks

I know for Audi you need to code it using VCDS to "tell" the car it's fitted. I presume this would apply here as well (same software)

Cheers,

I was (am) under the impression it didn't need reprogramming due to having the (working) cd changer...

hmm I may be wrong then? I'm pretty sure with Audi though the actual media player needs to be specifically coded to the car, and there is an option for each one in VCDS

Went to my local(ish) ICE shop, they proved the dock is fine, so you may be correct.

£35 to hook it up to VCDS, and £70 for the dock.

I have a GROMaudio box from my previous cars, just need a VW cable cable £20, but I'm wondering if this will need coding too, I doubt it, but you never know...

For closures sake, yes the grom unit works out of the box...
