2007 Passat Phone kit - how to set up

I have recently acquired a 57 Passat SE, and it has a phone kit installed.

It has the keypad that when pressed pops out of the dashboard and in the armrest there is a cradle built into the top tray. It has the MFSW with phone buttons also. Looks like it can clip a smallish mobile phone into it. Don't recognise the connector but it could be a nokia of 2007 vintage.

I have the service books and manuals and there is nothing in there about the phone.

I have gone through the computer menu and the stereo menu and there is nothing that suggests anything that links with the phone interface/bluetooth. How do I find out what kit my car has?

I've been to local VW dealer and they have no clue from looking at it, they said they can book it in to find out what it needs which is £££ i'd rather not spend (i'd ideally like to be able to use my iphone with it) Google isn't helping me either.

Anyone knowledgeable here have any ideas where to start? Sorry if it seems vague - I can take a photo of the cradle and post it here if anyone wants to have a bash.
