Not many of these about. Has anyone got one? The performance figures out of the 3.0L diesel enging leave all the other manufacturers way behind. Wouldn't mind a test drive in one if i could find one.

No one commented so will try and start the conversation.

Went from E70 X5 to F15 X5 and considered the SQ5.

Love the rear and side profile but think the front is a bit of a let down. It was also very small inside in comparison to an X5, more X3 size, and I couldn't lose the legroom. Also the tech on the Beemer was better as the Q5 is due a refresh.

Own a standard SQ5 (not an ABT one) and it is a fantastic car, but not what I wanted sadly. If I had a young family and wanted to ferry them all around it is brilliant.

I bought it purely because I thought the performance would replace the loss of a car that had been gracing my driveway previously & I think it is much nicer looking than most. Oh boy is it quick and it will return good MPG if driven like a normal car. Grip, handling, comfort it really does all of these things well, but oh my god what a boring car to drive. It is so good, it hardly needs any effort to drive it..... press throttle, move wheel and arrive at destination. If you are into the whole SUV scene it takes some beating (literally); Unlike the other poster, I liked the size and yes it is more X3 size, but more than enough space.

Mine has about every extra under the sun and the Hi-Tech with a SIM in it for traffic info from Google overlayed on the maps is brilliant. So if you want fast, capable yet boring, then order one now. I have probably just knocked 5K off my resale value, but I just don't get the whole SUV thing I guess. I went out and bought a new S3 and that is my kind of car, but as you can see from that comment, I am not the best person to comment. I guess Audi loves me as I bought 2 cars in 6 months from them yes

I gave it to the wife and she loves it, but as she drives like Miss Daisy I need to buy something cheaper, slower and more economical for her. Probably not the greatest advert, but I had a Supercharged RR for a day and hated that too. At least the Audi brakes don't fade whistle

Drive one and be amazed at the torque, it is thoroughly addictive. Then go buy something fun to drive biggrin.

Thanks for your input guys. Thats the problem i have with the SQ5, its too bland at the front end, it just looks like all the rest of the other Audis. S3, RS3, Q5 Etc etc. Thats why i like the look of the ABT bodykit. My daily driver is a Range Rover Sport SDV6 3.0L Don't get me wrong, its a fantastic all round vehicle but just lacks the performance of the Audi SQ5. Infact it doesn't even come close. Would i regret swapping my RRS for an SQ5? I'm fairly sure i would as i do enjoy driving my sport and i think it looks much better than the SQ5.

Yes, but the 40d is 'only' 308bhp and the 50d is still a lardy X5 no matter how much grunt it's got.... wink

I know you've posted this in an Audi section but if you're saying the SQ5 is too 'ordinary' then seriously, look at the Alpina XD3 it is a genuinely quick and agile alternative to your RRS - 350bhp & 0-62 in 4.9sec .... I tried the RRS at launch, both a V6 & V8 and found it quite lardy with dim-witted gearbox settings, the X3 is very much more sporty in comparison (but not a sports car - it's still an SUV wink )

Some odd posts on this thread, surely the Q5 competes with the X3, anyone coming from an X5 would be bound to find it too small. I agree on the technology, but the Q5 is now an ageing platform so it's hardly a surprise but I have to hand it to BMW, their infotainment and HUD leads the way at the moment. In terms of the SQ, bought Mrs Blue one a few weeks ago and while it's still running in the performance and economy is remarkable, as is the drivetrain refinement. It is a great all round mid-sized family car, with the benefit of 4 wheel drive for added security. It is not a Caterham and delivers 'fun' in other ways, the steering is dead but that doesn't bother me given the requirements we have for this particular car.

I think some folk should think a little more carefully before taking the plunge on a purchase, if it's driving pleasure and fun you're after I'd suggest the SUV market in general is not the place to shop.

My apologies, I'll just stick with the X5 and not look at the class below or above next time.

Do what you want mate, my comments weren't aimed specifically at you and not intended to offend, the SQ5 is not perfect but I think the criticism in this thread is unfair.

It was the fact you bemoaned the interior space of the Audi compared to the X5. Of course it's smaller, by your own admission it is from the segment below.

Anyway, surely the Macan is worth a look if the OP considers the SQ5 looks to be a bit bland?

No need to fall out over a car topic guys, we all have different requirements in our motors. Life would be boring if we all liked the same things in life. I've looked at the Macan and i don't think its my cup of tea. I like my vehicles to be a little different to the run of the mill standard look, but not ott like a Kahn creation. eek Thats why i started off this topic with the SQ5 ABT as its a bit different. I never buy a basic spec vehicle. When i specced my RRS it was specced with most of the extras on the list that suited my likes and needs, just to make it stand out from the croud.
Thanks for all your input sofar guys. smile
