So last Monday I waved goodbye to my beloved vRS hatchback after 96,000 faultless miles. It nearly ended it tears before it began after a suicidal brick made an escape from a lorry on the M5 and wiped out the radiator, grill and headlight. That was 200 miles in.....

However, I grew to love the vRS. It's looks weren't as sculptered as the new one but nevertheless with a set of Eibachs fitted and a colour coded grill it certainly looked impressive.

Whilst my colleagues have dived into Audi, Mercedes and BMW brochures I also had a hankering for another one. First pictures of the 'new' Octavia looked poor and almost weak next to the old model. I toyed with a few cars until one evening whilst looking at some pictures on the internet (ahem....) I came across this one.

At last, I thought. A new vRS! She will be mine....

Seven months passed and and after going back to my bookmarked image of the vRS above she finally arrived. True, like the photo editer in the picture above I've had to tweak it slightly. In come some subtle tints and a set of Eiback springs, out goes the 4 x 4 look...

The car itself? It's impressive. I'm luckily not to be one of those Octavia drivers who have a constant felling of pressure in the ears and even though it's lowered and on 19" wheels I promise the ride is no harder than my last vRS.

The inside of the car is a slight step back if I'm honest. The plastics feel, well, very plastic and the seats whilst look impressive seem a notch down on the old model.

However from the outside the car is a winner. Whereas the old car looked like its nose had melted this one looks like it's about to drop 200kg over Syria. It's certainly a step up in design and quality.

So finally I get to delete one of my bookmarked internet pages. After all, like all internet fantasies it's never as good as the real thing...

Deleted at last...

Looks lovely! I tried to convince the missus into one of these, but she wouldn't be proud to drive around in a Skoda apparently rolleyes.

I currently have my friends 2013 VRS Blackline sitting outside in the same race blue, always been a big fan of the VRS's.

Keep us updated!

I have had the VRS wagon for 6 months now in Meteor grey, it's a fantastic car. But the noise thing is a downside.

I like them , thought about getting one briefly but decided on another Golf GTi as I don't really need the extra space. Interior looks similar to the mk6 golf.

Seen quite a few of these lately, they look at least as good in the flesh smile

Sorry, missed that out my post! It's the diesel sadly, 184 bhp so not bad but no rocket ship. It'll do whilst I save for the Exige.

Very familiar with Octavia's after 4.5 years selling Skoda. What do you think regarding it's performance vs the old one? Good luck saving for the Exige, can't be too bad a life if you have to slum it in a VRS!!

I'd have to disagree ref your comments on quality, the MK3 Octavia is such a step up. Where's the wind noise gone? The road noise? The way it disguises ones speed is quite incredible, it's such a well screwed together car.

Re the original posters car, it looks great.

Two things bug me about the new octy though 1) the standard nag/radio screen is just too small and looks a bit out of place 2) the std vrs seats don't look as good as the old ones.

I would consider another octy as my next car but i really crave a bit more refinement and a few more toys at the moment, Is the new model noticeably more refined than the old?

Having covered roughly 20K in various new Octavias and now a few weeks in MK7 Golf (same stereo) I can say for me (technological numpty, I still have a Blackberry because it has keys!) the screen is absolutely fine.

The seats are infinitely better in the MK3 VRS than the MK2, so much more supportive on the shoulder.

Let's put it this way 60 feels like 40 in the new Octavia, 80 like 60, at one point I was doing about 1.2 Leptons (on a private road) and barely felt over a ton. I personally was bowled away by how much better it was.

Thanks for the interior pic! Looks like another step up in overall quality from the Mk2 but those seats look a bit low rent - quite like the contrast seating (the suedey effect / leather) in the Mk2 even if the quality of the leather isn't great. The black with more black and a mere bit of red stitching isn't too creative from Skoda (particularly with the rest of the interior being as dark) but you've got yourself a cracking car. Do like the profile in estate form - just hope it's rattle and squeak free!

If you work for skoda, what sort of % discounts are achievable now on higher end octys?

I've had 3 Octy vRS' now and next year I'm potentially looking at the Mk3 as my next purchase - will be hatchback as I just don't need the estate.
Got a drive in the new one at Goodwood when it was officially released and it drove so nice.
Cannot be convinced by the 19" wheels myself - you say ride is no harsher, but I've been in cars with wheels of this size and it certainly feels more so.
Pleased your enjoying it.

I supposed it's what I'm used too. Having had a Leon FR on 18"wheels prior to my last vRS that thing felt like I was sat on the road.

Left Skoda for VW 2 weeks ago. Discount will be down to each dealers individual discretion, we barely gave free metallic paint yet over achieved target every year, other dealers give it all away and fall short.
