Recent gremlin this one.

The nearside front passenger door on our A6 won't open from the key. It's back to how it was when I first started driving in that I have to get in and open it manually.

Pulled the fuse last night and it looks OK - I even swapped it with another one just to check. At which point the door opened via the key.

Then swapped them back around and the door still opened. Thinking it might have just been a dodgy connection I went back in the house, pleased that my 'Man skills' had saved the day.

Unfortunately, this morning, it wouldn't open again.

Any ideas?

Just buy new fuses and replace anyway or could it be something else?

Not sure what vintage A6 you have or whether it uses the same components but its a common issue on Mk5 Golf based cars so I suspect it may be the same for the A6, for those it's usually either the door control module (which is integrated into the electric window motor assembly) or the lock mechanism itself. My wife's 2007 Altea currently has this issue with the drivers door, I've changed the control module without success so now waiting for a new lock mechanism to be delivered. Neither are particularly expensive if you buy second hand off ebay etc and can be a DIY job if you're comfortable taking the door to bits.

Thanks for that.

Did you scan yours for codes? Just wondered if there's a way of checking before ordering.

It's a 58 plate C6 A6.

Had a problem on a rear door of the A3 I recently bought.

A fter unlocking with remote, couldn't open from outside but using inside handle it would open, once opened this way you could open it with either outside or inside handles - basically the internal handle forced the unlock, once unlocked all was OK, until locked again.

Turned out to be the door catch/lock mechanism - one complete unit on this. Sorted with a £25 Ebay part whic I fitted.

I took the old lock to pieces, there's 2 little motors in there, the one that unlocks wasn't working, the internal handle unlocks the lock unit direct, I guess your key is doing the same.

Not sure if this is similar to your problem or helps.

58 plate is the right era for this type of fault and it seems the A6 can suffer from it...

It might actually be time to invest in a VCDS cable.
