Well, Thanks to PH i just leased a Golf 7R
Discussion
I think there is a few of us out there that, without piston heads, would have never known/gone for the Golf R under normal circumstances (either too expensive to buy or not on the radar) so i just wanted to say thank you
Here is a few pictures, i haven't taken delivery of it yet, thats this friday. If you're in a similar situation to the above feel free to add to the thread
Spec is standard except the DSG gearbox
Friday CANT COME SOON ENOUGH!!

They are nice cars.
I really don't understand what VW are doing though.
As you say you'd never even think about getting one unless you seen all these low cost lease deals. Everyone seems to be leasing one.
Although you are free to enjoy the car and know exactly what it is going to cost you, what about the poor loyal VW customers who have ran out to buy the 7R, and what are the residual values going to be like for the rest of the Golf range?
Surely with so much supply of Golf Rs the values are going to be peanuts in a couple of years time when thousands upon thousand of ex-lease cars end up on the market?

You seem to be well informed. How many Golf Rs are VW making then?I really don't understand what VW are doing though.

For some reason I thought they would control how many they make leading to lots of excitment but huge lead times to protect future values.
Guess I am wrong.
Let's not derail the OP's thread.
However I think these will be no less than £20K sitting on the used forecourt area of a VW dealer. They'll all be around 16K miles, ex lease and there won't be many privately owned cars in the system. They'll all be with VW dealers so I imagine that if the news spreads and the car becomes sought after that they can charge what they want, within reason.
I just don't see them being a bargain come used car time. If they do I'll pick one up.

Personally, i think they made such a good car with the GTI that people that buy the things normally would always opt for the GTi rather than pay quite a premium for the R.However I think these will be no less than £20K sitting on the used forecourt area of a VW dealer. So, leasing was the only real way to get a load of them sold. I still think there won't be that many in circulation compared to the GTI/GTD's so it will still have a bit more exclusivity around it.

Fair play OP.
But from a second hand market view its a shame they will all be pretty much base spec though. I'd prefer to buy one with a few toys.
have you seen the level of standard kit?But from a second hand market view its a shame they will all be pretty much base spec though. I'd prefer to buy one with a few toys.
radar guided cruise control, bluetooth, front and rear parking sensors, dual zone climate, usb, touchscreen blah blah blah ?
