Good morning,

On a bit of a whim I picked up a 07 b7 rs4 avant with 75k miles. First impressions are good, solid cabin, holds the road and sounds fantastic. Did the usual checks, DRC, smoke on start up, s button function etc. all seems good. Previous owner just put new disks and pads on at a great expense. Needs a couple of tyres so that's the first job to be done.

Any other things to look out for. I've heard they like to drink oil so any oil recommendations?

It has a tyre pressure monitoring fault on the computer, and after reading up on the net the sensors battery's are probably coming to an end. In 2 minds weather to replace them or deactivate via vag com. Anybody have experience of this?

Early days with it but looking forward getting to know the car. Bit of a step in the other direction from a lotus elise.

Cheers.

Welcome to B7 RS4 ownership.
Mine has now passed 70k miles and still going strong.

Oil cooler pipes can corrode, so worth getting that checked out.
Creaking on full lock could be front suspension arms.
I've had a couple "Check Engine" lights pop up in the last couple of years - one was a flap (I forget which right now) and just an emissions sensor.
Flickering headlights could be control modules.

If used on track or a fair bit of spirited driving, the brakes can judder. Don't automatically think the discs are warped, it could just be pad deposit build up. I have found disc skimming when replacing pads is a good solution smile

Tyres: I now swear by Michelin Pilot Super Sports for summer tyres. Cost around the same as the OEM Pirelli, but so much more grip available.

Recalls should have now be attended to. There was one a few years back regarding the boot battery bracket and more recently spark plug replacement.

I'm sure the other usual B7 RS4 suspects from PH will along shortly to add to/confirm/correct what I've said thumbup

Enjoy your new motor!

Darren

Thanks for the reply Darren. It's a little bit intimidating at first.

Found one of the tyre pressure monitors rattling around in the wheel. Strange .

If you get it scanned with VCDS it'll tell you how much life is left in the TPMS sensor batteries, or if there's 1 that's already gone down. They're not mental money to replace these days

Tyre fitter reckons whoever fitted the last tyre broke it and tried to repair it. Anyway minor quibble. Will get the tyres bedded in for a few miles before stretching it's legs.

I seem to recall my tyre guy suggesting it was quite easy to break them on installation if you treated them roughly. Think they only require a low torque but most people don't use a torque wrench on them! Will look it up when I'm at home and have elsawin in front of me
