We purchased a new A4 TDI 177 2wd Avant in March this year. It has done 8,500 miles and the service indicator has started warning us a service is due in 700 miles or 100 days. The car was ordered new and was available for delivery mid February but registered and delivered 1st March. I would have expected the service intervals to be longer than this (our petrol A1 did 18,000 in 18 months before its first service). We are not particularly hard drivers and the car has had a mixture of commuting and long journeys. Advice would be appreciated.

VAG no longer offer long life servicing IIRC, so if its a 10k interval that sounds about right (it warns early as most owners ignore the service notice on them. My golf is the same.

I'm pretty sure they still do. It's called "Flexible Service schedule" now. You can ask you dealer to switch the car over to it.

And "fixed" service interval is indeed 9000 miles/15000 km. https://www.audi.co.uk/owners-area/servicing-maint...

Oh its a dealer option now is it? Used to be an option you could tick at purchase. I would stick to the normal 9k schedule tbh fresh is best in diesels in regards to oil.

If the majority of your driving is on long, smooth trips with little to no hard acceleration, minimal cold starts and minimal town use they will go up to 20k before asking for an oil change/service.

For most people doing a mixture of driving the 10k intervals are used.

Thank you for your replies
I spoke to the dealer and have been told it can be changed to long life but they need to do an inspection service first. We will have the oil service done this time and decide whether to have them change it after the inspection service due after another 9,000 miles
