Using Audi connect in the A8 seems to mean that the Bluetooth connected telephone is no longer operational. What setting allows me to use the data facilities of Audi connect, but choose which telephone system I use to make/receive calls?

I think this was a flaw in the early connect systems. You can either use bluetooth or a sim card but not both together.
Something like a Blackberry hooked up to the bluetooth will download data. If you use an iphone it will hook up but not download data for google maps etc.

It was a while ago so I may not be 100% right, the guys at an Audi Centre should be able to help.

Thanks, will ask. It is September 2013, not sure how early this was. All the places you might look to choose which telephone to use seem to not do anything.

The only way I have found around this is to buy a Sim card (i use GiffGaff) for the car and forward calls from my phone to the car Sim. The only other way around this would be to have a phone that supports SIM-Access-Profile which iPhones don't.

Apparently from reading on the internet, there is a software update ending 0770 which fixes this. Mine is 0614. People describe it as very hard getting the dealers to perform the updates.

Thanks for that, I've got my car booked in to have the update done on the 8th November, the update is chargeable but should only take an hour.

I explained that I wanted to use my phone via Bluetooth and a SIM card for data, they said there was an update and when they could book me in.

Mine is now working well. Forgive poor pic on iPhone, poor signal on car SIM as in garage and phone gets better signal in there. No Google or ONLINE showing as a new SIM I need to top up before these will appear. There is an option now on the telephone menu "make calls using" and you can choose the car's SIM or Bluetooth phone.

I had my car updated last week with the 770 update, I started my car at the dealer to check if I could select my iPhone for calls and sim card for data but the option wasn't there! Audi took my car back in on Monday and have been playing with it since to try to workout why it didn't work.

Hopefully I will have it back by the weekend...

In addition to the 770 update, there is an extra step required.

http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?...

I hope I'm allowed to link the above, but the above works on my 63 S8.

Additionally, I changed my iPhone for LG G3 and that allows remote SIM access out the box and is now all working as well, so I can use the car's aerial to use the SIM in the phone, the car creates a wifi network for the phone. I await the EE 100MB/month for life for £5 SIM as a backup option.

When trying to work out remote SIM access I did find an Audi connect guide that mentioned there would be an update for iPhone users to allow data from the SIM and hands free in the car, which is exactly what 770 update did for me. Some dealers are twitchy about the green engineering menu it seems, but it does work. Obviously no one should go near bootloader settings in there, but you can also enable ripping of CDs which is disabled by default.
