An indy dealer I know has an ink blue 2008 B6 Passat highline tdi estate coming in at the start of the week which I'm going to view. Other than that I don't know anything else about the car in terms of mileage etc.

I am aware that Passats of this era suffered handbrake problems and some of the diesel engines are less desirable than others. Does anyone know or have a link to a good buyers guide so I can at least have a little knowledge before I view it? Any major horror stories and so on?

Cheers in advance.

Edit to add: He mentioned it was a 130BHP, and error on his part? so I'm assuming its a 2.0 140

Should be a 140 yes. The common rail (CR) engine is excellent but the older PD version has some problems. 2008 was the changeover year.

Update. The car is indeed a CR 140. Has quite high miles on it but comprehensive history and drives brilliantly.

I collect it on Monday.

Good choice thumbup

These don't seem to mind the miles, my Golf is on 94k and runs smooth as it should.

I had a 2006 VW Passat and it was the worst car I've ever owned. Okay so it may be that I got the Friday afternoon car that was assembled by the apprentice!!!!

I owned it from 86k to 105k miles and we had the following problems:

New radiator
OSR electronic brake caliper
NSR electronic brake caliper
Electronic steering lock
Door lock
And the final nail in the coffin was the oil pump going pop which then knocked out the turbo.

I used to be a fan of VAG but quickly went off the marque having had the passat

The car is great so far. Comfortable and very fuel efficient. Not 'PH' in the slightest but sometimes something more mundane is needed for the daily slog.
