Went for a drive to Dartmoor earlier, and while accelerating onto the A38 on the way home I noticed the car felt very flat.

I floored it a few times and it felt like there was a lack of turbo boost, and the exhaust seemed louder than normal. Temps and fluids are fine and I couldn't see any smoke. There is also no misfire.

So could it just be a boost leak?

DV valve, followed by PCV piping

As above, if it hasn't had the DV replaced this is most likely the cause

Part is only about £40 for the latest Rev G http://www.stokeaudi-parts.co.uk/products/Audi-Tur... and is about half an hours labour to fit, or just about do-able as a DIY with the right tools.

Took the scenic route to the garage this morning an the power started to come back a bit towards the end. Hopefully they can sort it as I'm off to Rally Gb on Thursday!!

Mine's had an outer CV, ABS sensor and ring, air conditioning compressor, PCV and DV so far, and intermittently (every 6 months or so) displays the common runner flap motor error code and associated CEL. It's due a cambelt next year.

I'm gradually working my way through every common fault and notable service part there is.

But the car will still run just fine with those faults. Apart from the inlet manifold motor and A/C pump, none of that list is expensive or difficult to do and the cambelt with water pump is £349 at the main dealers, so they're hardly bank busting cars to run.

Have you had the fuel line tapping problem yet? Or the leaking brake servo causing a hissing noise behind the dash? Or the rusty sills? Rust wings? Rusty tailgate? Broken boot light? Broken door lock module and alarm electronics?

No? Well you've not had the half of it yet!

Well that's cheered me up laughlaugh

Should get the car back tomorrow with a new valve. In the mean time I had better sort out the car tax renewal this evening weeping

I was surprised at the potential cost/difficulty at replacing something as simple as the thermostat - well it was easy on previous cars I've owned, but requires a lot of things to be removed to get to it!

New valve didn't fix it, garage concerned about how harsh the engine sounds. Funking gutted, looks like I'm off to Rally Gb in a stty mondeo with a dodgy 3rd gear..

You getting any rising and falling of revs at idle?

Did they scan it for faults? They sometimes show a p0299 code if it's the DV. If the answer to the above regarding revs is yes then the PCV would be your logical step I'd have thought

Nah idle is fine. They think it could be a blocked exhaust or maybe a snapped actuator rod.

Could still be a boost leak even though the DV has been changed, though that wouldn't normally make the engine sound much different.

The car definitely sounded louder, but it was from the front of the car, rather than out of the back box. Was hard to have a properly look in the dark and rain with the stupid engine cover.

Turns out the actuator rod and bracket had snapped! So the garage have welded it up and on the shirt drive home all felt well again!

Well its happened again frown

Pulled out of a junction, short shifted into second and floored it, changed into 3rd and it lost boost. Drove around 10 miles to where I was going, and when I restarted 15 minutes later it had boost for a couple miles before losing it again.

fking cars eh?

And again!

Dropped it to 5th to pass a car and it lost boost! The power comes back after restarting the engine, but goes less than a mile after. It seemed to briefly have st loads of power when it was last working earlier!

Last time it was an actuator switch, so maybe something to do with that again?
