My friends A6 y reg saloon regularly gives him three warning beeps whilst he is driving.

This can happen at any speed and any time during his journey.

His pixel dash warning system is almost non existent although he suspects having seen 4 circles with a line through them at some point in the past when this happened.

Anyone able to point him in the right direction?

Many thanks

Could it be that the Speed Limit indicator is on?? Mine is switched on at 98 but I seldom get to here it over the DAB..

Tyre pressure sensors perhaps, or outside temperature dropping below 3deg?

Could be oil pressure. Get him to check all the fluid levels and scan it with diagnostic tool!

At that age of A6 I'd suspect the speed warning as well - to disable it you need to be driving, but doesn't have to be above the speed which sets it off, and then press the clock setting button (IIRC) on the left of the instrument cluster for at least 1 second.

Can't recall - it was so annoying when accidentally activated I made sure I never touch the clock setting button when moving!

Reading it again though I'm not sure, as it wouldn't come on at different speeds unless you happened to have set it very low and you're going up and down through that speed frequently?

Knowing how flaky the electronics get on these as they age it could be almost anything - the fact it's still running suggests it's not crucial and a scan will only help if it's logging a fault code, which for anything like brake fluid or low oil pressure you'd expect it to.

If it's orange it's advisory - if it's red it's broken/breaking!

Can't decipher the colour as the warning pixel box on dash is practically dead

Seriously?? You need to find out what it is... otherwise it could go horribly wrong!

Could be the battery backup in the siren for the alarm, when mine gave up this was the symptom until it went mad just going off at random.

That comes from the alarm sounder itself in the back of the car though? That's 4 beeps too from when my S8 one failed recently frown
