Considering one of these cars with a view to remap it to 350/360 but gave held off due to all of the comments of turbo failure on the first batches.

Gone a bit quiet but APR in the US still have not released their map and was told recently that REVO have had issues.

Not convinced they are strong enough for mapping.

Any news on this issue and are anyone running a mapped R / S3 can share their thoughts.

I have just ordered a new Golf R and as far as i am aware they now come with a revised turbo.

I have heard of a few guys having them re-mapped with no problems. The stage 1 map being most common.

Thousands have been registered on the road in the UK alone. How many unique turbo woes have been reported? Not saying it doesn't exist or can't happen, I'm merely suggesting that some perspective may be appropriate...

I don't doubt for one minute there are many on the roads but the dealer I spoke to was aware of the issues and there has been much talk of it on the GolfR forum.

Spoke to Awesome a while back who inform me there have been many variations of the turbo which indicate VAG group have gone back to IHI to sort the issuesI was informed APR were not releasing a map until the turbo issues were resolved.

If you tune a Golf R and it goes bang you've got no justification for complaint.

VW are on their 4th part number for the Turbo on the R - thats a fact.

There have been less than 10 failures on the first 2 derivatives that the March to June 14 cars would have installed - APR have stated there has also been 1 on the 3rd but nobody on the general Golf and R forums and nor here either owns or knows of the car (so a pinch of salt added to defend their delay in producing the map perhaps).

As far as can be ascertained, all but 2 of the failures has been on standard cars and am led to understand that the most recent of the mapped cars was repaied under warranty as VW accept that there is an issue that could cause the failure.

REVO had running issues at high revs on DSG cars - it has apparently been sorted but was not turbo related.

The 2 most popular tuning options currently are a DTUK tuning box or the REVO remap - both appear effective and the car is a weapon once added.

Hope that clarifies matters.

That'll be the one in the 7R vs R8 video at Crail that was running the ARP beta map.

That car was registered September 1st.

Yes much talk on RForum indeed, how many registered in the thread with Turbo issues? Most likely the busiest R specific forum around, a very international membership. If it was such a big issue to warrant being put off by it I would expect more confirmed reports. I mean generally people put negative stuff up, its in their nature, and when it happens people will look on line for similar incidents...

I agree that there is a lot of talk and speculation and not a lot of fact!

I will give a few tuning contacts who may be able to give more specific answer.

APR are the biggest VAG tuner and support VAG Germany with their race teams across the globe so they may be able to give their view on tuning this particular turbo. It's an integral unit mated to the manifold and I heard rumours they were looking at a Garrett option. Will see.
