Hi all,

The glowplug light on my '08 A4 has recently started flashing when the car is running and cold - as soon as it reaches normal running temperature it doesn't flash anymore .

As it's warming up the light only flashes when the engine is under load , but it pulls away perfectly well .

I've read stuff on other forums that it might be related to the brake lights coming on , or a dodgy brake-light switch , but they all appear to be normal and the brake lights don't come on when the glowplug light flashes .

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Not sure about Audi's but on other makes its frequently there to show you one of more glowplugs has failed , probably worth getting the codes read

The glow light when it is flashing has nothing to do with the actual glow plugs.

It is used to tell you the car can see somthing wrong (like a sensor out of spec) and it needs attention. Generally after the glow light has flashed the engine light comes on and stays on.

There are hundreds of things that can make this happen, you need to have the fault codes read and this used to diagnose then the actual fault.

Typical items that could cause this, exhaust gas temp sensors, boost sensors, DPF pressure sensors etc etc.
