Hi all,

My Passat B6 TDI has yet another problem!!!

When I'm accelerating hard I get a noise (a sort of drone rattle on and off not constant).

This drops off when I let off the revs or touch the clutch.

And now when I turn at slower speeds I get a rattle. The same noise can be made at slower speeds by dabbing the throttle on and off.

Any Ideas?

I've got a sort of idea but wanted a fresh mind.

I thought that but I have no play in the joint when wobbling driveshaft.

Maybe removing it would prove its on it way out?

If it crackles when you pull away on full lock, its the outer C.V joint.

If you have alot of vibration its usually the inner triple roller joint.

If you have both its cheaper and easier to replace the drive shaft.

you should be able to detect a tight spot when rotating the wheel if the inner joint is gone, but the only way to tell the C.V joint is the crackle.

Looks good,

Could lack of grease be me problem as the garage that messed my timing up also change an outer boot?

My rattle is not as bad as the one in the video.More of a humming rattle at speed and small rattle when turning at slow speed.

Update:

I'm now finding its making noise when hitting dips in the road under acceleration and also when taking RH bends under acceleration.

Any ideas what side it could be?

Be careful! I've been driving 60 years and thought that my o/side cv joint had gone (same symptoms as yours) but when my tame mechanic fitted the new one it turned out to be the left! It had previously had a split boot changed too....

Funny how noises travel.confused
