About to order a new GTD, have tested a DSG and love it, but I need to order my exact combo or colour, gearbox and options.

What's advice would you give me about the best choice of colour and spec in terms of reliability and resale value?

The other option is a GTI, but I'm 99% sold on the diesel due to the mileage I drive,

Personal choice is limestone grey. Options wise I would say sat nav and winter pack are good options, and personally I'd have dynaudio.

Tornado red, standard wheels, cloth, panoramic roof, reversing camera. Don't bother with DCC or keyless.

In retrospect I'd have probably had the Sport & Sound pack on mine, but otherwise the above is superb.

My favourite combo at the moment is grey, three door, 19's, discover pro. Brilliant cars. I see Golfs all day every day, and I have never been as impressed with a model as I am the MK7. The technology in the engine is cutting edge. You won't get 50+ mpg because they are so bloody good to drive. If I could justify it, I would have one, but I do low mileage and would probably go for the same spec GTI with the diff, which is addictive!

I've ordered an R DSG 5dr in White. The lease deal means that there is no point in fitting extra options but I would have liked sat nav,19's and Pano roof but I'm told that they are pretty well spec'd cars and it should be good even without the options mentioned

No options on my GTi other than DPB paint. The car is pretty well specced as standard only things I'd consider again is the 19s or keyless. Roof is nice but expensive, camera is just a gimmick it's got sensors front and rear that work great.

Thanks folks.

Current school of thought is Tornado Red, Spanish, Winter pack and Nav on normal wheels. 4 year PCP and 4 year warranty.

The missus prefers the DSG, but I'm not so sure. Are they more desirable used? Trois Portes don't seem to be judging by the amount at dealers used.

Definitely 5dr DSG with Nav. Colour is a personal choice but I think Red or White suits them. Black and Grey a bit bland. Also stick with Cloth seats and 18" alloys.

You shouldn't have any problems selling on as GTDs are super desirable and the DSG cars hold their premium.

I'm hoping I might be able to afford one sometime next year as an upgrade from my Mk6.

White is dreadful and cheap looking should remain in the 80's.

Black looks good but awful for dirt and scratches.

Red or the dark silver would be my choice.

Not keen on the light metallic blue either but all other colours are ok.

In my opinion of course.

I really cannot see the appeal of white but seems really common(er popular!).

You can't order the GTD in light metallic blue. Only blue you can get is night blue metallic which is pretty nice.

Night blue does look good and not many around in it. The pearl white looks good I think.

Absolutely agree, whether it's a boggo 1.4tsi (sweet spot?), GTD, GTi or R, all fantastic.

OP, I'm a dyed in the wool manual man but I would 100% go for DSG on one of these.

I'm 5k miles into a MK7 1.4TSI ACT DSG, DSG suits my mileage but I'd go manual if you're doing 10k or less & not heavy traffic. No doubt DSG is good but it removes a layer of interaction. Only you can answer how important that is.

I went for Black - no other options due to being on a lease. But would have had leather and heated front windscreen if it wasn't for the extra cash.

Really does look very nice in Night Blue Metallic. Would have been my first choice has my previous Golf not been Diamond Black Pearl. I feared it would be similarly torturous to keep clean!

This is my order:
Met Carbon Grey

Manual
Cloth
Sat nav
Keyless entry
Dynaudio
18's
Rubber floor mats

Covered about 7k miles in it since collection 3 months ago and can't fault it!
