I've just put a stage 1 map on mine and oh wow! It was already a quick car, but it's now where it should have been from the factory...

The pick up when you accelerate now is much better, I always thought it was a bit flat originally. The torque is great, foot down and it just goes without the need to drop a gear. spill the beans then Impressed so far, but should be able to give it a proper blast tomorrow on the way to the girlfriends.
Downside is loss of traction and axle tramping

They quote 240bhp and 400nm of torque, haven't done a rolling road to confirm, but it is a lot quicker and the performance is about the same as my old Leon Cupra, which was 240bhp standardSilverbrick said:

Bare in mind the PP equipped GTI has an extra 10PS over the Octavia. Probably in a lighter car too. Not trying to put you off as I think the 220PS in the Octavia Est I had as a demonstrator was quite good enough, even with a load of tiles in the boot.Had my 06 plate petrol 2 ltr Octavia vrs just over 2 years now and very pleased with performance although fuel consumption seems a bit heavy around town doing mainly local stuff at present, don't know previous history much except I put it on Surrey rolling road before Christmas and was doing a respectable 231 bhp, yes there is a loss of traction in first 3 gears in this weather if too heavy on loud pedal but a decent exhaust note exists.

Bloomin eck that's very surprising. I remember Skoda saying they'd taken about 70/75kgs in weight out the mk3 but even still!sjg said:
If you're buying nearly-new and want a petrol then the old "diesels depreciate less" thing works to your advantage when negotiating.
Slightly o/t, but I'm thinking of getting a petrol mk3 vrs estate... Do you think there's much scope for negotiation at a Skoda dealer on a used car (buying cash)?I'd go for the petrol.

2) Perceptions are changing towards diesel and are now seen in a more negative light due to pollution
3) If there are less petrol vRS sold, it will help to keep retain future values
4) Petrol is nicer to drive than diesel
5) You're only doing 12k p/a so petrol makes more sense

Ditto - DPF's are really good at taking large soot particles and making them into small micro particles that are drawn deep into the lungs and are very harmful to health . I expect legislation on diesels in the new couple of years 1) Cheaper to buy a petrol vRS

I was planning to change my car in a couple of years but now going to look for a nice pre reg 63/14 plate Octy VRS petrol estate , seem to be a few around but must be 20 diesel to every petrol .
I did order the petrol it`s been a week since my order has been put in, only another 11 or so lol!
Estate, manual, petrol, race blue, canton sound system, colour dot matrix computer, panoramic sunroof, heated seats, screen and washer jets looking at getting a black grille fitted when it lands as well
Looking into it the engines seem extremely tuneable, 320bhp for a stage 1 :O I might just keep an eye on these and get it mapped once the warranty is out
I hope it comes in time for my week in Germany, I need to give it a lap round the `Ring then apply the sticker lol!

Ask about a deal on a new one, it worked out far cheaper for me to go new than a pre reg and like you say theres not many about. My nearest petrol vRS was 120 miles away!Make sure its got cruise control and the flat bottom steering wheel
