Ditto - DPF's are really good at taking large soot particles and making them into small micro particles that are drawn deep into the lungs and are very harmful to health . I expect legislation on diesels in the new couple of years

I was planning to change my car in a couple of years but now going to look for a nice pre reg 63/14 plate Octy VRS petrol estate , seem to be a few around but must be 20 diesel to every petrol .
And I'm sure you've seen Islington is the first London borough to introduce higher parking surcharge on diesel cars. This is one of the first instances but expect taxing diesels to become wide spread making diesel less popular.

As people have been buying diesel for past few years, there are less petrol cars on the roads so expect the prices of petrol cars to strengthen as people switch to petrol cars.

No I wasn't aware of that , I read that Paris wanted to levy diesels and Boris has made similar noises of late in the media .

Dpf technology has only ever been a sticking plaster fix and has don't nothing to make diesels less of a health hazard

I could probably do the same , I have the Fabia to trade and could afford 250 per month. What's the gfv and mileage allowance if you don't mind me asking ? Presuming 3 years as well
Last payment is £9800ish and thats on 12k miles per year. 30% deposit, the maximum, as well. Yep, 3 years

Well test drive one today and ready to push the button but dealer won't give me (what I think is a ) good deal .

Trade in offer is £500 more than wbac but no further discount if I take pcp , dealer is saying the 2.8% deal is tieing his hands

If I pay cash then they will knock off £1500 off the £30k (with options) price

Is this comparable with other buyers ?

Brokers are quoting £26k for the car with options so I could private sale or even wbac my trade in and be £££££'s in

So why not do that? Or, at least take the numbers in and say "this is the figure I'm looking for, and this is why".

Alternatively get dealer quotes from the company whose name is a container for fruity preserves. Just Enter the spec and you'll get email offers from dealers. Then haggle a finance deal if you need it.

I did show the dealer the quotes I had , I don't know why but I would prefer to buy from my local dealer and support them , ultimately it would greatly inconvenience me if I had no local dealer .

But I'm not going to pay £4k for the privilege

I'll try that company you mentioned as I'd not heard of them before

Edit looks like Jamjar are no more

Under 18k??? Are you in the forces and getting it tax free or something because that price sounds impossible, its less than the last of the pre generation estates were being knocked out for.

Does sound like an excellent price but I think it might not have been brand new

Sorry - should have been clearer! It's a 13-plate with 14k on the clock.

Hi, new to this particular forum but would like to ask a quick question about the Skoda Octavia if you don't mind.
FIL is here at the minute and looking to replace his Volvo S40 with an Octavia Estate but it scares me to think that they are 1.2 & 1.4 Petrol. Is that really sufficient or is he going to feel it's underpowered?
Saleman has been pushing him towards the diesel but as he does short journeys, around 10 mile seems norm day to day but some longer journeys (but does around 10k miles a year) I've warned him off the diesel.
Any advice appreciated
Thanks

The small petrol engines are fine as the turbo means similar BHP to a larger capacity engine but more torque and better economy. The 1.2 TSI for instance offers better performance than the old 1.6 petrol.

I would agree diesel isn't sensible if only doing short runs as you may get DPF problems.

The 1.4 petrol Octavia gets to 60mph in about the same time as the 2.0 diesel, no slouches at all

Leasing a Vrs diesel is pretty cheap. I got one April 2014. Vrs estate dsg meteor grey. For £1500 deposit and 225 a month over 2 years. Petrol was over 120 a month more.
