They seem like a cut price golf GTI - and really not bad for the money. I like that the reviews say its slightly more grown up than a Fiesta ST (as to me I'd feel a bit silly in one) bit its still a fun car. Should be somewhere in between a Fiesta and a Golf in my mind.
For a cut price Golf Gti, you could also look at a Leon SC FR, same engine as the Polo, but on same MQB chassis as the golf. Same price as the Polo through a broker and better equipped. Obviously not a VW so may not cut it with the OH but worth a look. The longer wheel base should also give a better ride.

Hi All,

I have ordered new Polo GTI via DriveTheDeal (£18393).

My spec is

Reflex Silver
3 Door Manual
Performance Sport Pack
Winter Pack
Cruise\Park Pack
Reverse Camera
Arm rest\Storage

Leads times are 14 to 16 weeks, will be wife daily driver to work. Was going for BlueGT, but then this GTI came up had to have it, sounds like a fun car based on reviews. Hopefully turns out to be a little pocket rocket.

It was the drive the deal prices that we're tempting me too..

Your description of pocket rocket reminded me of this review vid I found. Probably one of the most unintentionally amusing presenters I've seen!

Hello all. I had a test drive in one on Saturday - much impressed. Seemed to have a lovely sweet engine, was great fun on country roads, and had a decent ride to boot. Sounds obvious but I think size makes a lot of difference (ooh err matron) for punting down country B roads, which is pretty much my daily drive. Very tempted !

I had a little test drive in a manual last week. I'm close to ordering but want to drive the ST first. I drive 15000 mpa a year and was hoping this could achieve 40 mpg on my drag to work.

Quick little car but i did not push as on a test drive.

I used carwow to obtain the best price and then asked my local dealer to match on a PCP deal.

As its coming to the end of March I'm hoping for a good deal.

I drive the focus and fiesta ST next Tuesday. Decision time!

As an update, we ended up with a Mini cooper S 5 door (on order!). Mini brand/styling won it for the missus

I've been watching this thread for a while.
I put in an order in through Drive the Deal mid Feb, nothing special DSG, sports option and black paint.

The thing is what delivery time has everybody been quoted?

I keep checking the VW tracker (proper impatient biggrin ) and it just says 'Your order is with the factory, your order is being scheduled for production'. I've been told by the dealer it's scheduled for build week 20.(May), ready for completion/delivery in June.

What's everybody else been quoted? and is the VW tracker always so bloody slow at updating?

BW20 sounds about right for a late February order but until its confirmed that can be pulled back or forward. VW tracker doesn't update until it becomes confirmed. Once its in production expect it to take a further 4 weeks before it arrives at the dealer.

Picked mines up a few hours ago, not pictures or anything yet, only had the time to drive it for around 25 minutes! Coming from a 2005 1.2 Clio, it naturally feels absolutely rapid to me, the interior is a huge step up to what I had previously, and I'm trying to get used to having buttons other than a horn on the steering wheel. Being that my Clio had automatic lights I basically never had to switch my lights on in so long I've near enough forgotten how to do it!

My GTI doesn't have auto lights, I turn the little dial on the right hand side one notch to the right (that should be the lights on right?), but the lights for the speedo cluster don't come on (from what I could see, was testing this in daylight), I thought cluster lights automatically came on when you put your headlights on, am I being a completely dense, or is there a separate button :|

Nice upgrade! Dash lights are always lit during the day and the brightness automatically adjusts. They dim when it gets darker to suggest you need lights on. Turn the light switch two notches to the right for headlights (one notch is sidelights)

Thanks very much, I feel like a right divvy! Jesus though, you can tell I've never owned a modern car, I thought they must have been full beams as they were so bright biggrin

Hi

Ordered polo gti couple of weeks ago was told three months praying it comes earlier, personally don't think the St compares to the polo unless your taking it on track days I did test drive an St also found a deal where the gti is cheaper

I'd probably go S1 unless you're particularly after the DSG

I liked the look of the Polo GTI but saving up to £4k made the Fiesta ST my choice.

How long did it take you guys to get a order number?

I paid my deposit last week, still not heard anything.

First time I've ordered a new car, not sure what to expect.

Who's it from, dealer or a broker?

They should usually provide the order number very quickly. If they haven't it might suggest they haven't placed the order yet...
