No I didn't. They aren't in the UK yet, only available to order.I viewed the motoring press reviews and watched a few of the latest videos.
I have the current Polo GTI which I like so I know roughly what to expect, plus the new model is an improvement on what I have according to the reviews.

Does look good, I am currently weighing up the BlueGT vs GTI. They seem to work out at about the same purchase price. I am thinking the 1.8 lump in the GTI would be better on the motorway as I cover 20K per year. How long till delivery?
Blue GT gets some good write ups but I think the GTI really does look the business and far more fun behind the wheel. My current Polo GTI happily eats up the motorway miles so with a 1.8 engine it should be even better.I loaded mine with a whole load of extras including the sports performance pack which comes with the sport button to change the ride and throttle response setting. £23,745 with a negotiated 10% off that figure from my local dealer.
Delivery hopefully in March, middle to end of. However I'm reading some guys are being told that they will have to wait until May/ June for delivery. That seems a bit extreme.

Sounds like you did quite well to achieve March delivery from an order this month. I was speaking to VW earlier in the week about lead times and was quoted 3 - 6 months for a Golf which could take you into July!va1o said:

The current model I'm driving took 11 weeks from order to delivery, that would put me near to the end of March for the new one. I know it's a long wait for the Golf R customers, 6 months or so the dealer said.va1o said:

Good point, none of the reviews seem to have been able to explain why yet!7 speed DSG = 250Nm

So in short, apparently the 7-speed DSG can't handle the full torque load it seems.

1. Packaging, what DSG options does the 1.8 have in larger cars?2. Weight, remember the 1.4twincharger had the battery in the boot, new one is too heavy and would mess the balance.
I suppose the other element is due to it being a 'facelift' version, rather than a completely new car, VW didn't want the hassle or expense of slotting in a DSG 'box that would cope with the torque.

Been looking at these the last few days (not in the metal obvs). They seem like a cut price golf GTI - and really not bad for the money. I like that the reviews say its slightly more grown up than a Fiesta ST (as to me I'd feel a bit silly in one) bit its still a fun car. Should be somewhere in between a Fiesta and a Golf in my mind.
Any experiences of how refined these are as a cruiser? This would be the missus car but it sees 90% of our daily family transport.
