How widespread is the oil consumption issue? How can you tell before you buy if a particular car does it? Is there a fix?

I have driven 11200 miles in my B8 S4 without the need for a top up. First service replaced oil at 9000 miles. No idea why others have had a problem. Though I see they have.

Just going off what the previous owner told me.
Its a 7 speed Auto and its definitely Quattro, also has flappy paddles.
I was told it's very similar to S-Tronic.
Luckily it's not a multi! It's an s-Tronic.

The 2.0TFSI has an intrinsic defect that can lead to ridiculous oil consumption. The S4 doesn't have this issue.

Surprisingly not, AFAIK. It's just 2.0TFSi B8 A4's (2009-2011) and similarly aged A5's and Q5's.

So it looks like something that could be checked by looking at the engine reference before buying or is that detail not visible? Would a 58 plate carry the same defect I wonder.
Have any legal precedents been set in the UK? Is it s fixable issue?

Have a read of this thread.

There was also another thread of the same ilk (Q5) recently but I can't find it.

I think there's an issue on the B7 2.0 TFSI if the HP fuel pump cam follower fails, it can damage the camshaft and head. In the US and Canada the warranty on those parts was extended but when I called Audi UK customer service they rudely denied all knowledge of it. I checked my follower at 80k and it was ok, as it was cheap I replaced it anyway.

So how do you/I know its an S-Tronic and not a multi-tronic?

It's a quattro, so can't be a multitronic. These are FWD only.
