VW Passat EGR valve
Discussion
Hi,
I have a 60 Passat TDI which has done 37,000 miles. The emissions warning light came on the dash a couple of days ago. There were no noticeable symptoms of any other problem.
I took it to my local VW dealer who diagnosed it would need a new EGR cooler valve. They said as its a newish car with low mileage VW a would contribute to the cost, but still my bill would be £700.
Now I obviously feel a but put out by this, especially as the car was just serviced by them a couple of weeks ago, at which point they carried out an emissions control service.
Do members of the forum think I have grounds for complaint, considering the recent service?

No if it wasnt a fault at that point then they wouldnt have known is was faulty (as it wasnt). Now it is a fault and they have offered a good will gesture... Sounds positive to me.
EGR valves are a common failure across all marques in my experience. No warranty, be preapared to dig deep.
