Well that's stupid then and a very easy way to get a new engine.

Bizarre suggestion. If there's anything else obviously wrong with the engine, that's likely to get picked up long before they strip it down. And if there's nothing much wrong, why do you want to get a new engine (or most likely, just new pistons) put in?

Ref the bottom end rebuild - You guys may have seen my post on having the car Terracleaned and the spark plugs changed after the work has been done by Audi. Remember the fix Audi offer is a bottom end rebuild, not an overhaul of the no doubt coked\ oiled up head....

Get it done if you can....
