Perhaps I should have posted this "first world" dilemma in a more general section as I am not restricting myself to a VW or Audi.

So five months into my two year lease period, I am enjoying the car more than ever. The engine has loosened up and is delivering even more mid range grunt and improved flexibility. The car really is just perfect for my needs. However, like an addict I can't help thinking about where my next fix will come from. I am not averse to buying used and really only leased this car because of the cracking deals.

Any thoughts or ideas from the similarly afflicted?

Given how quick and capable they are, is the next step up and RS4? Maybe a GTR or 911 Turbo after that... then you're into Veyron territory! Once you've had a great "do it all" car, it's tough to replace for any money what it can do.

I'm 6 months in, loving the R, but also thinking along the same lines... maybe a Z4MC, or 996 911?

Or just go the other way and get a 4x4 and be slow for a while so my next 'sporty' car doesn't feel inadequate compared to the R.

If had mine since June and I've done 8500 of my 10k this year. Love it but wish I'd got more miles.

I have been asking myself the same question The R is such a fantastic do it all car, what's next?!?

I have an old 525d touring that fills the gaps. I think next I will scratch the fast estate itch

The 3.0t S4 avant or a possibly a b7 rs4,

Only 6p a mile for extra miles on the golf lease smile

Got my golf coming in 2 weeks. Can't wait now!!!
Is it really that good?

Fastest car I've had previously was a C32 Amg. Currently in a 120D so going to be a nice change!

I'm thinking F10 M5 after this or maybe even just buy a well specced golf R when the lease is over smile

I must be the only person in the world that actually purchased one but they are a great car.

I would be interested to hear from other owners but as a car through familiar country lanes I haven't driven anything as quick, and my previous car was a 2013 cayman.

I am currently looking at swapping it in for something else because I have had it for a little while now. Thinking about the RS4. Also audi is doing some serious contribution at the moment.

It doesn't have to be sheer performance for me. I have a weekend toy and the other half drives our luxo barge. I love the R because it is such good value on a lease. So the replacement has either got to be a cracking lease deal or a used buy that is practical and fun.

The BMW M135i would be appealing on a good lease deal. The only other thing that is sparking my interest is a Skoda Yeti. Peanuts on a lease.

Mines 26p :-( ... i did get a silly deal though at the time, DSG, Winter pack and DCC fully maintained for £340 Inc VAT. TCO is £10400 if it don't go over the miles and i don't regret it one bit!

If the whole lease craze around the R is to be believed then there may well be those who are inexperienced with regards to high performance RWD cars. To go from the R to the above may well involve some calamities

Like some of you, I was drawn to the R on the great lease deals. The biggest problem faced is everything else on a monthly basis is going to look very expensive compared to the R. The only regret of ownership is the mileage cap, not sure how I thought 10k per annum would be enough. Unfortunately my deal had the higher PPM.

Next cars, which I am thinking about - maybe sticking with hot hatches:

Golf R400 or 420, if they make it
Audi RS3

Mine is due next month but strangely I'm already thinking the same thing.. what next?! I do like the idea of leasing and so I'll be checking out the Cheap Lease Deals thread no doubt in 18 months time or so.

I'd also like to scratch the 911 itch though. A 997 in an interesting colour maybe.. I fancy a brown one for some unfathomable reason.

I'm leasing an M135i at the moment and have 13 months left. I'm dreading the day it goes back and would happily buy it if I had the money. Guess I'll have to wait and see what the value is when the lease is up. Alternatively, I might:

a) see if there are any insane lease deals in December this year on something interesting
b) buy a shed
or
c) extend the lease for one more year with a view to save up to buy it

Do you really need to upgrade in that case? You have't specified why you need to change the car (want more power/luxury/size) so why not just extend the lease or look at buying it? No need to change for the sake of it which appears to be a growing trend these days. That's not a dig at you btw i just feel that when you have a car that does everything you want it to the next one will end up being a compromise in some way. Just my two cents though.

I believe these lease deals did not have an option to buy at the end. It was 24 months rental and hand the keys back, however, I stand to be corrected.

You might be right relating to the Golf R deals. My M135i lease had three options at the end of 24 months - hand it back, lease for another year or buy it.

Oh okay didn't realise that was the case. I know I've got the option to buy my Scirocco at the end of my term next year but i suppose it's different to these limited cheap Golf R deals. Think the terms and conditions with each lease is different. Some outline straight away there is no option to purchase at the end but i'm sure that's quite a rare occurrence.
