I have an issue that I can't rectify with the Audi Parking System.

I have an Audi Q7 with MMI High 2G. The car has parking sensors and reversing camera. Recently the distance measurements stopped working the system still bleeps correctly both front and back and there are no VCDS faults with the sensors identified. I have tried to analyze the settings in VCDS (from Ross-Tech) as well as work with the Hidden Menu settings for the APS settings. The only way it seems to work, albeit temporarily, is to disable APS sensors in the hidden menus and re-enable them and reboot the system, but if I leave the car for a prolonged time (like overnight, or the time between getting to and leaving work) and it goes back to not working again.

I found another thread with a very similar (if not identical) issue, but no resolution documented.

http://audiforum.us/threads/mmi-5570-with-aps-upda...

Seems like there is a conflict, but for the life of me I can't understand why it did work and why it is playing up now.

Any ideas welcome....

Under the Car/Settings menu I have the Audi Parking System showing as an option, which when selected has a very understandable set of menus and seems to reflect what I want from the car

However, when I press the parking sensor button on the dashboard, or engage reverse gear, the screen changes to the Audi Parking System menu and when I choose settings, I get 3 different Display options with competing entries and sensor volumes and frequencies set to zero. If I change these settings and try to save them, they come back to this once I reboot MMI.

I have VCDS and the cable and nothing shows as being an issue, but there may well be an odd setting somewhere in there.

Is there a way to reset all of the settings to factory and start over?

Is there anyone out there with any insight into this?

The systems are working occasionally. When they do work, the settings in the APS menu when APS is active doesn't show the 3 display lines in the image above, just the frequency and volume settings. I can get it working after rebooting the MMI system (but sometimes takes a couple of reboots). There is no repeatable way to make it work consistently.

Can I wipe the system back to basics and rebuild the systems from scratch? If so what would be the process?

If not a route anyone would advise, is there a decent MMI skilled technician in the South East someone would recommend?

Unfortunately when messing about in the green menu, or with VCDS long coding, you really need to document all changes in a word/text file as you go along, so you can always undo whatever you've changed and get back to where you started.

A low battery can cause all sorts of issues (and there's no point activating the battery meter as it'll show 100% even when the battery is nowhere near!) but you can log data from one of the modules to confirm state of charge and condition. That'd be a good starting point.

To deal with the messed up settings you may need to find an identically specced car and make a note of VCDS coding and green menu options selected.

It is very easy to change settings with VCDS and/or green menu to a point where you introduce a conflict. That sounds likely in this case.
