New Golf not yet due AFAIK. Perhaps they're discounting because they're not shifting enough.

They're shifting plenty. The waiting time for a factory build is still 4-5 months. VW are just going for all out sales.

I read somewhere the mk8 is due in 2018 and VW were working on a 10 (!) speed DSG box. May not be accurate - either way the car has only been out 3 years in November, the Mk6 ran from late 2008 to 2013, so I reckon the Mk7 still has a bit of life left in it yet.

Ref the delays, VW are having problems fulfilling demand, the unions are giving them a ahrd time and the assembly plants have robot problems, this article says they aren't even operating at 2/3rds planned capacity: http://uk.reuters.com/article/2014/09/24/uk-volksw...

I was looking to purchase but the discounts made me think a new model was on the horizon!

Edit. yes if it's only been out 3 years that's good smile

Vw announced last year that all of their cars now will have a 5 year cycle rather than the previous 7, with a facelift at 3 years. So the golf is due a facelift next year sometime.

I assume the changes will be things like LED lights as an option and the updated infotainment system from the new Passat (with applink/carplay and the like) I doubt there will be anything majorly different other than some tech updates

I'm not disputing that, I just can't imagine why they'd be selling so well.
They really aren't very nice looking cars - and I'm wording that delicately.

Perhaps plenty of people think otherwise?

Not due for quite a while yet, I don't think we're even mid way through the Mk7's life yet.

The Mk5 and Mk6 were short lived as they are essentially the same car.

Wouldn't expect a new model until 2018 at the very earliest

Golfs don't really get facelifts. Just some minor changes to trim levels etc.
