I have just been playing around with the car configurator building a Touareg and the no cost option wheels I specified when placing my order in March "Talladega" are now a £1035 cost option, from memory nothing else has changed.
Apparently there was a supply issue with the standard R wheels, so some cars were getting the Talladega wheels f.o.c,

The demo that I drove had the Talladega wheels, sales rep told me it was possible that my order could come with either type of wheel depending on stock.

I quite liked both styles and couldn't pick a winner between them.

I too like both, but I opted for the Talladega as I have never seen a car on the road with these fitted and should the worst happen I thought they would be easier to repair.

No Idea why its still showing in transit.

However, they are suggesting fire at supplier and said it would have part fitted later, could be as simple as anything, but its annoying knowing never the less.

I believe its showing in transit but on the dealer tracker its actually still showing as factory based, so its still not on its way!!

I do have 6 more weeks before I can start to kick and scream, as I ordered it for 27th... July, however, I was going to have it early (2 months in the end as its was making good progress)

I suspect VW are struggling to cope with demand, or their component suppliers are.

The new Treg is a smooth, comfortable and handsome car with very reasonable lease rates.

I'm not surprised demand is outstripping supply to be honest, but it appears their communication to dealers and customers could be better.

I get the feeling they have a problem with the supply of the standard Diamond cut R wheels, and to justify swapping them over have now costed the other wheels up, to make out you may be getting a deal £1k free, they were a free option when ordering my car, the only alternative I would accept would be the 21" wheels, however even then the compromise could be ride quality.

Will see what happens. No idea why they are costing up the other alloys.

The cost of fixing the wheels isnt a big issue I have a top of the tree alloys refurbishment centre near to where I live and rennovate to better than OEM standard.

The problem more often than not with the diamond cut alloys is they haven't really established a great lacquer to stick to bare metal with no primer and the oxidise, (white under the lacquer), preperation has to be perfect prior to painting.

I decided I would go with the diamond cut wheels rather than pay £800 for metallic paint, and choices were ordinary, and white is nice, and its cheaper to fix solid white than another metallic/pearl colour.

My faith in the consumption economy for such a big beast is slowly being restored. I went along the coast road from Hampshire to Kent on Friday, a good mixture of 30/40/50/NSL limits on single lane and duals plus the ocassional traffic jam. It averaged 37 mpg over 200 miles on the day, kept it to pretty much the speed limit on all sections. However if push the limit on duals it will kill it though, so nothing over 0.8 units but mainly around 0.6 - 0.7 is good.
Also took it on a localish trip with lightish traffic over 50 miles on Sunday it averaged 38 mpg. This tank is currently sitting at an average of just over 35 mpg, which from brim to brim experience will be within 1 mpg when I top it up.

If mine comes with the Talladega alloys, they can keep it.
The Tarragona alloys make the car IMO.

I also don't think VW would openly lie on email correspondence to dealers. My dealer fwd'd me on the email from VW UK, they would be pretty bloody stupid if it was total BS. I expect nothing less from dealers to customers verbally mind... haha

Harry - that's good to know. I have estimated that based on those MPG figures and the cost of diesel in France and Spain compared to premium unleaded my fuel cost should be halved compared to last year when we go on our annual trip south later this year.

Quick update:

Mine is showing Tarragona wheels on the spec sheet, and is also showing Port of Exit (OUTER PORT) on the dealer status. Was ordered March 25th.

One thing I do find is not drag racing from roudabouts makes a big difference too, although it does really sound sweet for a derv as it changes up.
Also the change up on light throttle tends to occur around 1600 rpm, when sitting in 40 limits for a distace it will sit in 5th but not drop into 6th, so a gentle nudge up to say 43 mph will drop it into a higher gear and feather back to 40 in that higher gear, good for the economy, similar thing happens around 30 limts too for 4th/5th. Not worth it for short stints I grant but if it's more then a few hundred yards then I do it. Trying to change manually is met with the same 1600 rpm point too. I've never run it in sport mode myself, but I suspect the change points are higher. Also the coast function is pretty good, you can come right off the power for a long distance if its slightly down hill or you are approaching a junction etc, I find it makes about another 10% to the economy if you are concious of it and use it.

Labbetts sounds like you don't have long to go. You ordered on the same date as me, but I said I did not want to take delivery until 1 September so I think the dealership may have sat on the order for a while before sending it off to VW. A few weeks ago I was told the car should be with the dealership around the first week in August, but that was prior to the post about possible delays brought about because of a fire at a suppliers factory.

I've just had a good blast cross country, dropped the stick into S mode and must admit this tank can shift for a big lump.

I like the way the sport mode holds onto the gears and keeps you 'on the boil' so to speak.

On the downside, my drivers seat is getting very creaky, I don't think I'll be able to put up with it for too much longer, I'm hoping it's a one-off and something that can be resolved by the dealers.

Coin - sounds good. All of my recent cars have been "sporty" and I do like a good blast, so it's pleasing to know that the car is no slouch and can still provide some excitement as well as comfort!

My dealer has indicated a delay due to a fire in a component factory; any idea what this delay would be for? I ordered mid May and supposed to be here early Sept but was hoping earlier.

Not sure if it's of comfort but I'm over 2500 miles in and have no squeaks, rattles or creaks inside mine.

Nothing in mine either apart from the seat, very annoying when everything else is so quiet.

I'll get one of my lads to take it for a spin and see if it's just my backside or if it creaks with a lightweight sat on it.

I've barely driven it this week as I've been commuting on my mountain bike, so to be honest I'm looking forward to that creaky sound on Friday night when I will drive home for the first time this week.

Still no progress on my order... no idea what's happened just the same story as everyone else, fire at supplier.

Have about 4-5 weeks till I need delivery and VW are offering a hire car in its replacement if it is not here in time.

My Touareg has a built date commencing 22/06/2015 - no changes on the online tracker at all.

Think I will wait till the end of this week, till I call my dealer again.

That does not sound good for me? What dates did you place your order on?
