Harry I would be interested in some further updates regarding your experience with your new car. I ordered one on Tuesday but am not taking delivery until 1.9.2015.

I had a couple of test drives prompted in the main by the fantastic deals of offer, I went in expecting not to like it and came away very impressed, it will be a complete departure for me, but I just fancied something a bit different this time around.

Same here smile I ordered an R-Line through a main dealer yesterday. Total cost is £10,810 over 2 years (inclusive of VAT). That also includes Maintenance and Met Black (@£750!). An amazingly good deal IMO for a car that very nearly tops £50k. That's a level of depreciation i would expect on a Mini CS costing half as much.

I've had two X3's (currently driving a 2011 M Sport 30d) and an X5, all 3.0d. I wasn't expecting to like the Touareg but came away loving it. Fast enough, loads of space and super smooth. The fact it comes with pretty much everything i'd want is also a huge bonus. The R-Line spec is the first time it's ever turned my head in the street - i always thought it looked rather naked as a vehicle.

Would i pay cash for one? nope. For £50k i'd probably rather take a new X5 or Macan. But that lease offer is a no brainer IMO. Happy days - roll on June!

Agree for the lease money it really is a no brainer. You got a good deal there I'd say, I'm paying £10220 for basic car, effectively you've got metallic and service at cost price not retail. Although a single service is expected to be around £250 for mine.

The car continues to please, today I found the coast option, this disengages the drive when your feet are off the peddles above 25kph, you can see it on the dash which normally shows what gear you are by Dn it cuts in and shows just D and revs drop to tick over; again I've read you can feel it but it really is unobtrusive, cutting straight back into gear and the right revs as soon as you touch a peddle or the speed drops below the 25kph threshold, obviously it tends be only when you are going down hill and or coasting to a slow etc. My normal commute, 6 miles single lane heavy traffic and 8 miles duals, has been averaging 30mpg, with Coast selected today that was 34mpg, happy. I'm sure now I know how it works I can adjust my driving style to maximise it too.

If you've leased it, be aware you may need to give it two services mate. You can add it for literally £10.39 a month (inclusive) on the 2 year deal. It jumps to £28 per month on a 3 year deal!

Nearly went for the service plan, but the service indicator is set to 12 monthly then. My service has been set for conditioned based so is currently sitting at not due for nearly 2 years or 20,000miles. It'll get one service under my tenure.....

I've also taken out a lease on one, I lease my business vans, but never a personal vehicle before, but the lease cost is too good to turn down.

If for whatever reason I decide to go back to a Landcruiser then the VW can go to the wife.

I like my 4x4's to be understated, these seem to blend in quite well, I don't think anybody ever took a second look at my Landcruiser, I'm hoping the VW is just as anonymous.

I've been given a 12 week lead time, none of the in-stock vehicles had the spec I wanted.

Any pictures Harry?

Not sure VW would entertain that on a car that does such little mileage. My agreement is for a maximum of 5k so they expect it to be serviced in line with that (as they technically own it). I also didn't think they could just switch it between intervals like that, i thought it needed different oil for a variable plan??

I spoke to my lease company about this. My car is set to Longlife servicing and as I will only cover 16000 miles in it they said I won't have to service it.

A colleague has had a similar experience with Mercedes who said as long as he had the car collected before it counted down to 0 miles he would be fine.

I was told there was a chance mine would not need servicing as its longlife as well, but I've factored a single service into my man maths...

Some pic as requested

Looking good Harry, I have gone for the same colour combo, but chose the other no cost option wheels, as I thought the standard ones would be very easy to scratch....they do look good though.

Looks good in white, I've got the Canyon Grey ordered.

There have been some issues with the R Line wheels apparently, the cars I saw in stock had different wheels, not an issue for factory ordered cars though.

Harry - have you had a play with the RNS 850 connected touch screen nav yet?. I am just wondering if it's possible to copy CD's and MP3's etc to the hard drive. On my BMW system you can tick an option when playing a CD to copy that CD directly onto the hard drive. I also downloaded a large number of songs to my USB stick and uploaded them directly to the hard drive from the USB port in the glove box. I don't know if the SD card readers are supposed to work in a similar way to the USB port on a BMW to enable you to upload music to the cars hard drive.

Not used CDs or any media device with it. I've selectied radio stations, used the Nav and connected the phone all of which are intuitive and easily done. I will say the 8" touch screen is better in many ways to most. I'll have look at the options for media when next stuck in traffic!

Mine arrived today :-) but never made it off the truck - it managed to pick up a puncture at some point & no-where locally had a suitable replacement. They're bringing it back on Wednesday...

How frustrating for you, looks great in black though I don't envy you trying to keep it clean and swirl free.

I think punctures are a bit of a concern given the size of the tyres, I doubt many places are going to stock tyres for 20/21 inch rims. It's a shame they no longer do a space saver spare.

Yeah, I may regret the black! My VX220 is metallic black & at 11 years old & has taken some work to get the paintwork looking more respectable. However I like the black & I'm not afraid to give it some TLC every so often.

FYI - from build week 7 onwards (mine is 9) they're supplied with a space saver again, earlier ones without them can be retrofitted.

The space saver is a deflated type one with pump, not sure how a collapsed side wall tyre works myself, hope I never find out!
