Harry - I would have done the same, those diamond cut wheels look expensive to repair, one of the reasons why I opted for the Talladega alloys, as these appear to be just a standard paint finish. For our trip to Spain on the Euro-tunnel, I have decided to err on the side of caution and have opted for the carriage reserved for larger vehicles. The standard carriage does not have a lot of room to spare, probably about 4 inches either side for a vehicle with a normal track width.

Mine was ordered about 8 weeks ago and only moved onto "with Factory"" on Tuesday of this week. I suspect my dealer may have exceeded his allocation when my order was placed. At this stage I am not too concerned as I require delivery on 1 September.

Drsma please keep me updated on this, I am out of the country at the moment, so it's not easy to contact my dealer to find out what's happening.

Just had call from my dealer. Despite the fact that the track my car app is showing "With the Factory", he informs me that they expect delivery the first week in August

Drmsa, the explanation I was given was the same as yours, so as its come from three separate sources I guess it must be true. Harry and Coin, glad you are still liking the cars and finding positive aspects. Coin, will any SD card do, or does it have to be a particular size?

Harry & Coin, now that you have lived with the cars for a while, is there anything that you do not like or would change. I think the general consensus was that for a car in this price range electric seats should be standard, although for most people this is not an issue. Harry, you have mentioned the width of the car as being a problem on some roads. From memory the interior seemed of nice quality, but maybe did not initially give the initial impression of being from a £48k car, have you found anything lacking.
Finally the "blue tec" fuel addition, does the car use much?

Coin, that all sounds good, particularly the 35 MPG , that should provide a touring range of about 650 miles give or take, looking forward to my European trip now. I recon in fuel alone I should be able to do the journey for less than half what it cost me last year.

This whole order business is very poor in my opinion.I ordered mid March and it took till 12 May for the status to change to "With Factory". It has remained at that status since then and mine is just the bog standard car. It will be interesting to see how long it takes from build date to delivery. I am still waiting to hear back from my dealer, whether or not my delivery date will be impacted by the fire at a suppliers factory, he is normally very quick at replying and I have not heard anything so far, so fear the worst.

I have just been told by my dealer that the delays talked about in a previous post are impacting orders currently at the build stage only, however I cannot help thinking that this will have a knock on effect with all orders, unless of course VW can simply ramp up production to catch up.

Coin - I know what you mean about the GL, we had one for a few days when on holiday in the USA. It does not seem that large out there, but when I see them on the road out here they look huge. From memory I think ours was a 450 petrol, very smooth on the good quality roads of the USA, quiet and refined, but it did pitch and roll a lot (can't remember if it had air suspension or not). The interior was a nice place to be with good quality materials, but then again its a more expensive car. A friend has the previous model RR Sport with air suspension and I always feel that has a bit of an unnatural ride, it seems to pitch about a bit, thats why I will be quite happy with the standard springs, however having said that other Touareg owners have good things to say about the air suspension, so I guess its down to personal taste and cost. My order is still showing "with the factory" despite being ordered on 23 March.

It's years since I have had a sunroof in a car as my last two cars have been convertibles, can you please let me know if you get much buffeting when you have the roof open.

Dhalv - looking forward to hearing your impressions.

Harry - 25 mpg stuck in traffic will still be a big improvement for me, so not too worried given the average MPG figures you achieve on a run.

It seems strange that the status of your car is "In Transit" if it still requires parts. I would have thought that "In Transit" means its all finished and on its way to the dealership, unless the parts in question can be fitted after build, even then it would be better if the status remained as "Build in Progress".

I think VW needs to sort the "Track your Car" option out as it seems totally useless in my experience and probably causes more enquiries to dealerships asking for updates than if it were not available.

I have just been playing around with the car configurator building a Touareg and the no cost option wheels I specified when placing my order in March "Talladega" are now a £1035 cost option, from memory nothing else has changed.

I too like both, but I opted for the Talladega as I have never seen a car on the road with these fitted and should the worst happen I thought they would be easier to repair.

Harry - that's good to know. I have estimated that based on those MPG figures and the cost of diesel in France and Spain compared to premium unleaded my fuel cost should be halved compared to last year when we go on our annual trip south later this year.
