Harry - talk to me, what deal did you get? My wifes D3 has been with us for 7 years and so a new car is needed for her. How does your deal compare to the freedom deal? Am tempted to get one if the wait isnt too long (having waited 6 months for the Golf R to arrive).
HarryW said:
Did the man maths last night, freedom come in at £10,380 over two years when you add their fees, VW main dealer direct (Crew) via the what car lease link came in at £10,440.
The above is the amortised figures for two years and 8k mile pa, excess is 10.8 per mile.
I got mine from a different dealer at £10220, not a massive saving on the one advertising through what car but almost a service cost amount. I had the option to add servicing to the deal and it was less than £10pm, but didn't as he said it may not need servicing before return.
Build times are 12 weeks if you have anything but standard then that will be the wait. The dealer I used pre orders a car a month in standard spec and either sells it or leases it. I'll drop you his details via pm. All assuming the good deals are still running as it's now April and I thought it ended in March....
Sent you another PM....

I bought the SQ5 for Mrs Blue, it is a fantastic bit of kit as an all rounder, but a very different proposition to the Treg. I'd argue that there not really comparable, I see the VW in the Discovery/Q7/X5 class and the SQ more in the Macan/X3 category. If you go SQ5 you will love the noise, handling and pace, my advice would be to go for the smaller wheels (we didn't) as the ride is so much better, but on price it is a car you have to try hard to justify. I've had a few days in a Treg and would recommend the air suspension, night and day to a standard car in my experience and all round great value, but if you want a performance SUV it can't compete with the SQ.
Yes the Q5 is smaller and I agree that they are not directly comparable. The only similarities that we see in both is that they are big, or bigger than a saloon.

I'll drive the Touareg this week, my dealer reckons the deals havent changed and its all the same as march.

Thanks.

The PCH pricing is interesting.Prior to the March 15 £5k reduction in the list price a two year deal was working out around £462 per month (inc vat), this dropped to around the £355 mark and since the removal of the £5k price reduction has only increased to around the £395 mark, so support must still be out there, unless some dealer have pre-ordered cars.

The Touareg is only marginally wider than my X3, other proportions looked near identical when i parked them side by side. The performance on paper looks quite different (in the X3's favour) but in the real world there's minimal difference. Touareg sounds far nicer IMO, but that might because i'm bored of the BMW 3.0d, having had the engine in 5 different cars. Do love a V6. I'm sure the SQ5 is a beast in all areas - such a shame they didn't bring it out when they should have done... in 2011 !!

My dealer has just told me he can work off the March numbers. If anyone's interested PM me. They're London based.

Are these available on actual personal contract hire - not one of those where you have to be an executive or be able to claim business mileage?

Yes, the Freedom deal was standard PCH, however the price has rocketed for Q2.

Went up to Surrey over the weekend normal driving speeds, 65-85 it averaged 34mpg over 160 miles, very good. Also went fishing fairly locally yesterday about 15 miles each way, 40-60 A road stuff, it averaged 39mpg, more than happy with that for such a heavy 4x4 car with a 3.0ltr lump.......

Good to know Harry, I suspect that the MPG figures will improve slightly once the engine has loosened up a bit more.

I think those of us who have ordered have just got in, in time, I have just checked the VW website and the 262 R line is now back up to £48,215, so the £5k discount applied in March has now been removed.I would expect Q2 lease deals to go up accordingly.
Interesting - you're right the £5k 'discount' has vanished, however drive the deal are offering £2k off the 204 & £4k off the 262 if you take VW finance (which has also dropped to 6.1% from 6.9%), the current numbers to buy one (assuming you take finance) are within a few £100 of what I've paid under the previous pricing. Looks like they've just shifted the support from the cash price to a deposit contribution for the finance.

I do think this will impact leasing deals though - as the cash price of the car is now higher.
Just checked Freedom and the prices have gone up by near £1k over the 24m 8k miles, it's now £11433, still fairly good tbh.
Main dealer via What Car has only gone up to £11280, so a better deal.....

Still some good deals to be had, this comes in at £10606 for 24m and 8k miles pa http://www.nationwidevehiclecontracts.co.uk/Volksw...

Sure, I've put about 500 miles on it now so forming some impressions, which are overwhelmingly positive. My previous car was a 320d E92 (coupe) so this is a very different car.

The Toureg is R Line spec plus Dynamic CDC air suspension, black metallic paint & the area view camera.

In no particular order:

- Glad I went for the air suspension, makes for a great ride (I went out in my VX220 this evening over the same roads & this highlighted the difference & just how much the Touareg is masking) & yet its firm through fast corners

- The panoramic roof is brilliant, we've had some nice weather the last few days, I've been driving around with the air con off & the roof open. Also having the glass roof (which is heavily tinted so even in bright sunlight young kids etc.. in the back are ok.

- Electronics are nice, there is a large LCD screen in the middle of the spedo / rev counter, which can display navigation information, radio etc... the area view camera isn't a cheap option (about £900 pre discount) but I'm glad I spec'd it - makes parking & maneuvering in tight spaces easy (I ended up going for a petrol pump with a tight entry to it, which I got wrong but the camera saved the bodywork!).

- We're seeing high 30 / low 40's at a 70mph cruise, which isn't bad & I'd hope will improve slightly as the engine loosens up.

- Like the keyless entry, works well & I've quickly got used to it.

- I bought a hatchbag boot liner for it & have been on a few tip runs in it, managed to make a mess of some garden waste earlier, as it's all sealed around the edges I was able to sweep it out earlier, glad I bought it as one of the reasons I went for the Touareg was practicality, this keeps the interior unmarked but lets me actually use it.

- I've also bought some RG Mouldings sill protectors, should be standard from VW as there's a big lump of painted metal which is easily marked (BMW was the same), these look OEM & should keep things looking tidy.

I don't have any dislikes as such, more niggles & I'm being picky, if you open the tailgate from anything other than the button on the boot lid there's an annoying lorry style beeping when it opens, I'd argue isn't required as it stops if it comes into contact with anything & it's just daft. Electric seats of some description should be standard, I decided to spend the cash on the air suspension rather than upgraded interior, so far I think this was the right move. Sill protection of some sort should be there, but £40 for the above ones did the job.

I'm really pleased with it, my wife didn't like driving the BMW at all but has really taken to the Touareg - the higher driving position seems to really help.

Huh, no electric seats in the R Line? If so then it's a cock up by me, I thought they came as standard!?

All the showroom cars seem to have upgraded leather, which also gets you the electronics, also the standard leather doesn't get you the remote release for the rear seats in the boot, you have to use the leavers on the side of the rear seats.

Its daft & I was loathed to spend money on the upgrade as the cost is significant & I doubt I'd see any sort of return come sale time, the standard leather so far is comfortable & hopefully will wear well.

It sounds pissy, but I can't remember the last car I had with manual seats, even my pickups have them!

I blame the dealer, he said the memory option gave you position settings on the driver/passenger seats, he didn't say that the electric seats were extra.

Robsdesk - thank you for the comprehensive write up,I am glad you are enjoying your car. So far I have heard nothing but positive comments from owners, so really looking forward to taking delivery of mine. If all goes according to plan, I will be picking mine up on 1 September and then driving down to Southern Spain in it the following day, so it should be we'll and truly run in on my return.

The dealers don't know the cars at all in my experience our local dealer (who we didn't order through in the end as they were miles away on price & didn't add a lot of value to the process of figuring out the spec), the memory options do give you that (£100 or £520 depending on which option you tick), but you can only get the memory option on the upgraded seats which start at £1400...

In some ways manual seats are a positive - my Dad has an XF, takes an age to move the seats around, whereas manual seats can just be moved to the desired position. (but yes, it should have electric seats as standard!)

That's going to be quite a run in! That's quite a delay on delivery or is that instigated by you to get the 65 registration? (I ordered mid January & the car was delivered late March).

Re electric seats, I for one am not fussed by them as a standard fitment. I use the car 99.9% of the time so once the seat is set to my liking its set, whether it be electric or manual adjustment. I can understand electric memory seats being handy for multiple driver cars, but given there is a certain pot of money that goes towards making ‘standard spec’ I for one am glad it went say towards the Pan Roof rather than electric seats.
The seats are still heated which is a bigger bonus too, as is the heated steering wheel come winter. I would have liked the air suspension and if I was buying one as a keeper it’s probably the first extra I would have made, but for a lease, as mine is, it would be financial madness to spec it at nearly £90 extra pm.
