CoinSl0t .From reading the manual, I was just expecting to load a CD, select options then import, however regardless of which CD I load the "import" option does not appear. I had an online chat with VW asking about this and according to the technical bods my car does not have a CD, so little hope of getting an answer there.

I have now had my car for just under 3 weeks so I thought I would post my initial impressions. Firstly this is my first SUV in over 10 years my last one being a BMW X5, all my subsequent cars have been sports cars.

We have now covered about 600 miles a mixture of motorway, town and country driving.

Good Points

1.I cannot believe how quiet and refined the car is on the motorway and how comfortable the ride is. I had a loan of a BMW 335d touring with Pano roof earlier in the year and the amount of road noise being transmitted inside the car was far greater than in the Touareg

2.Fuel consumption so far on mixed roads (country and motorway and not hanging around) 34 which I am very pleased with, driving around town around 28)

3.The engine, I love the torque and never feel short changed by the performance

4. The interior quality, the basic leather is in my opinion the equal of standard BMW and Mercedes leather.

5. The car can really be hustled along country roads, great ride quality and very good body control

6. The coasting function.

Areas Where Improvements Could Be Made (Personal Opinion)

1.The interior is a nice place to be, but could be a little more special, possibly extending the leather to the door cards and covering the door pulls with leather fabric

2. A personal favorite of mine is mood lighting, particularly in the door cards, it just lifts the interior quality for minimal cost, the same goes for the instrument panel, its very functional but just a bit plain for a £50k car.

3. The Sat Nav / Infotainment system, not as good as the BMW professional navigation system (but I do think this is the best system from any manufacturer) it would be nice if connectivity to the internet was included as per BMW for a one off fee (£95)

4. I have still been unable to copy CD's to the hard drive, in the BMW this feature was very simple.

Things I don't like

1. The start stop function and the auto hold feature, in my opinion these border on being dangerous as on occasion they cut in even before the car has stopped. In practice unless I know I am going to be stationary for a while I disable the start/stop

That's about it so far.

I have just received my documentation from VW Finance and enclosed was a booklet "Contract hire drivers's guide Important Information" On page 5 in bold print under the heading of Foreign Travel it states

"Please note that we will not be liable for any cost arising from use of the vehicle outside of the UK. Whilst abroad the vehicle is not covered for breakdown, repair or vehicle hire. You are strongly advised to take out the necessary breakdown cover and check local conditions or laws before you travel"

Has anyone else noticed this?

At first glance it appears that once you take your vehicle out of the UK, you are on your own, regardless of the vehicle age.

I experienced exactly the same thing on Saturday (My car was registered Dec 2015). I was enjoying the country roads in rural Northumberland in sport mode and thought I would try the paddles, I approached the corner at about 40+ in 4th gear, changed down to 3rd to power out and nothing for at least a couple of seconds. I actually thought the car had cut out. I tried exactly the same thing later with the same result. I have not however tried any of the higher gears i.e 5th to 4th to see if its still prevalent.

There is not a hint of hesitation in full auto mode, be that normal or sport.

I was very impressed with the way the car performed on these country roads, which are very rutted and very bumpy, you can really hustle the car along and it was actually great fun. There is no disguising the weight when slowing down for a corner, but if the adopt the slow in fast out approach you can make very good progress.

The more I drive the car the more I like it.

The previous week I ventured out onto the North Yorkshire moors where the minor roads were still covered with snow and the car performed very well. There were some very steep inclines and descents I put the car into off road mode and for the downhill sections just let the car do its thing without touching the brake pedal, the hill descent light was flashing continuously and you could feel the individual wheels braking, but you felt perfectly in control with a speed of around 10-15 mph.

A great day out and one that would not have been possible in a two wheel drive car.

Over zealous safety nonsense, which ironcally makes things more dangerous IMO

Harry - In my particular case I always ensure I am in the desired gear prior to turn in, so in my particular case I had engaged 3rd gear whilst in a straight line prior to corner entry. It was on corner exit that there was a complete loss of power whilst trying to power out of the corner in third gear.

Not particularly fast as it was a fairly tight corner, I would say no more than 40 mph and probably no more than 3000 rpm

Can anyone explain the following please. In January of this year I installed a pay as you go data only sim in the Touareg and thought I had been using it ever since then. We are about to head off on a European trip and thought I would check how much data I had left, to my surprise my data allowance expired after the first month, however I am still able to do an "online POI" search and still get prompted to connect to the Internet for both radio and sat nav.
Any ideas?

Thank you for the tip. I gave it a go today, initially my phone connected to the cars wifi, but then disconnected again within about 15 seconds, so it would appear on that front I have no data. We are however planning a European trip and today I used the sat nav to plan our route using the online search function to search for the hotels that we will be staying in, in the UK, France and Spain and it found them all.The only reason I wanted a data sim was to enable online searches of this nature, so I am a bit confused to say the least.

Thank you for the link.I am still wondering what additional benefits I will get as I do not need the in car wifi and the online search facility seems to work just fine at present. If for whatever reason I am unable to get online I will certainley go for one of those 12 gb 12 month SIMS.

I have been impressed by the Touareg's all round ability for a while, more so infact than I ever expected, however after having just completed a trans European trip covering 1900 miles in six days I am even more impressed. I think the Touareg is one of the most underrated large SUV's out there.
The car was fully loaded and for a a large portion of the journey the aircon was working hard with outside temperatures touching 36 degrees although you would never have known that from inside the car.
The normal cruising speed was around 85+ and the car was rock solid and there was very little, road, engine or wind noise, the ride itself was also nigh on perfect.
Best of all the overall MPG figure was 33.5.
