Thanks for all the feedback. I spoke to motoring journalist Andrew Frankel today at Goodwood and he said he thought the RS6 was epic. So, looks like I may go back for another test drive. Does anyone have an experience of a dealer offering an extended one?
I got one for a day whilst my Q7 was in for service at the end of November - was so impressed I signed the order the next day and probably cost myself getting the best deal possible...

Took delivery on 2nd March and really don't care about the depreciation, it is a fantastic all-round car and worth every penny. I suspect this is one we will be keeping for a while.

Not sure comparing a diesel Allroad A6 to an RS6 was serious or not, completely chalk and cheese, the Allroad even with a superchips tune would not see which way an RS6 went? I'm sure they are punchy and have a good 1500rpm of good grunt but a bit silly comparing them to a raging fire breathing RS6.
I think the comparison was really about the rest of the car rather than the 0-60 time.

The Misano red car?

Nice spec, only a year old, I would say very well priced. I'm sure it will sell quickly given the fact it has the Ceramics.

That's a pain.
A pain, or did you mean Pane?
because it doesn't hurt biggrin
I considered which spelling to use and decided it didn't matter as the meaning was transparent. (Except in the bathroom where it's opaque)
Just to be clear, these jokes are smashing smile

I've had two test drives, first one wasn't that blown away but it was brief. 2nd one much better, I think you really need an extended test drive in these cars.

I'm interested to know how people find the size of the car day to day? it felt really wide to me driving it and it's mad long as well.

I had one for a few days recently, and to be honest, I found it quite big
My normal day to day car is an RS4, and it's quite a bit bigger than that. Not so much in the width, as I think it's only 25mm or so wider, but it's a very long car and doesn't fit too well in some multi storey car parks.

Saying that, I was very impressed by it. So much so that the dealer's just offered me another for a week to make my mind up, and I think I'll change into one over the next few months

It's a few quid more than an RS4, but as they're not available anymore (B8 RS4 production is stopping in next couple of months) and nothing else on the market really floats my boat at the moment, it's a natural next step for me and the deals available on the RS6 are god right now too.

Once on the open road, it doesn't feel too much bigger and you can hustle them along very nicely

I'm not sure what this "real world" is where where torque is king and horsepower means nothing? Perhaps at a tractor pull??

I moved from a C5 RS6 to a 335d - the BMW really is a great car, loads of torque, and as quick if I were short-shifting the RS6 at 5k (or the gearbox slipped!). But keep the V8 in the power band and it was in the next league.

The 335d suits me very well - not sure why Audi don't compete by putting the BiTDI in the A4 platform - that said I followed a 15 plate RS6 on the M4 for a bit today and would have swapped cars in a heartbeat. It looked the nuts. I would be nervous to test drive one as it would probably result in an order...

Sorry about the puns, I think you have a case......ment

RS 6 is stunningly fast, in a straight line it makes my Evora feel like I left the hand brake on (different storey in the corners and under braking as you would expect)

I bought a RS6 yesterday... I have only done c.150 miles so this is very much an initial reaction.

Although slightly surprised on my initial drive by the lack of noise (I don't have the Sports Exhaust), and coming from an Aston V8 Vantage (the advent of children prompted the move..) I have to say it is amazing.

The way the car picks up speed above 60 mph its frankly awesome. In the Aston you really needed to be revving the life out of it (and having hit the Rev limiter during numerous spirited multi-car overtakes with the disconcerting cut in power) I realise that I am not talented enough to get the best out of it.. Clearly the extra 200bhp makes a difference in terms of raw speed but the whole package works. A very big smile has not left my face all day.

I looked at a Rapide and also a Maserati Granturismo. However at my stage in life (!!) having a car that is slightly more discreet is a welcome feature...

I can see the RS6 being a keeper...
