test drove a RS6 Avant
Discussion
I was lucky enough to be given one for 24 hours a year or so back, awesome straight line but for me the sheer bulk of the car got took the shine off. Like others I found the M5 too hairy, although in the dry I think it had the edge over the RS. In the end I opted for an RS4, it's quick enough for my needs and has size and weight on its side, with the benefits of FWD and reasonable space. Bought my wife an SQ5 with the money left over and am happy with my decision, but wouldn't argue with an RS6, very good car but not quite for me.

Mine! love it.
And here's mine, same thoughts that it is a fantastic car - has moved the game on significantly from the C6, definitely deals with the issue of being a heavy / big car far better and the matrix headlights still amuse me when the flood the car in-front with light either side.Blue62 said:

My brother had the same thoughtHave had mine for 6 months , taking it on first proper road trip to Switzerland over Easter, cant wait to see how it performs on a long haul run.
Absolutely love the car..first the plus points:
- performance is epic and the sports exhaust is a must have option for the crackles & pops
- it looks so menacing and has real presence it could never be confused with a normal A6 (not sure if you could say that about the M5 or E63),
-its as practical as a bog standard estate...prob the best car I've owned tbh.
Only slight negatives are it is a large wagon, v wide so some streets in London can be tight if you have oncoming traffic and multi storey cars parks are never easy!
The car also gets a lot of v positive attention from other members of the public which wasn't something I necessarily expected.
Check out the link below Chris Harris' RS6 in drag against a P1, a very honourable defeat! Starts at around 11.50

test drove numerous rs6's ,wasnt too impressed with the ones on standard air suspension, did feel like a fast version of my allroad, but the ones with dynamic ride ,superb.
I have driven most of the competitors as well and to my mind the rs6 was head and shoulders above them all,yes an amg or m5 will be more fun on a track ,but in the real world on real roads in british weather ,its not even a fair comparison. The rs6 rules in the land of superfast saloons/estates.

^ That's exactly what I've gone for. Think your local to me as well John, wakey/leeds still?
Did a lot of reading regarding Air vs DRC, seemed to be a 50/50 split amongst owners as to what to go for. I went with air suspension because of the continued DRC issues that RS4 owners had/and have on both B7 and B8, and coming from an RS4 the ride was never great. Easy to make my mind up about dynamic steering, thought it was awful.

Interesting comments about the rid e quality on drc,I made sure when I tested the car with drc that we drove on the worst roads I knew of (outside my house funnily enough) and the ride was fine ,no harshness at all ,personally I thought the difference ride wise was very small .
that dynamic steering is utter crap though.
