HI where on a mk4 golf is the inter cooler pipes
Discussion
I have a low turbo whistle when you reach 2000 or 3000 revs also its noticed at low speed to .the car drives OK with no power loss or black smoke out the back ,some say its normal for a turbo to whistle the car as only done 78000 genuine miles ,where can i find the pipes that may be leaking I have read a few stories of some pipes that can perish that can cause this could you post some pictures or links so it will give me an idea where to check.its a 2003 1.9tdi golf mk4 estate .

Cant get the pic to work but it's hosted on a ebay ad, there is an image which shows the intercooler /boost pipe set up on a mk4 which should help

You need to be certain the noise is a hissing sound like a vacuum leak rather than a whistling noise being made by a dying turbo.
I'd suggest poking/squeezing the boost pipes with the engine running and in areas that are harder to get you try holding a small bit of tissue near the joins to see if it flaps around with any air movement. It can also be the case that some holes can be tiny when under idle but expand considerably under boost.

Start at the inlet and work your way round? They're not hard to see...
Indeed. The air comes in the air filter, and into the turbo.
It comes out the turbo, and into the intercooler.
It comes out the intercooler, and into the inlet manifold.
With that order, it should be dead easy to find the intercooler. It'll look like an additional radiator, quite possibly in front of the main one.
