Hi folks,
Just about to embark on the next service. I do all mine through main dealer to keep service book done. Last time I supplied the oil. This time I want to supply all the relevant bits as it really keeps the cost down.
What do I need?
Oil - check
Plugs - 10 of these but what type is best for the engine, where to buy them?
Filters - Lots of these it seems but what do I need and which are best?
Leads - Presume I need some of these but which ones?
Anything else I can supply?
To give an idea, me buying the oil last time saved about 80 quid!

I'd look at the fixed price 2 year service deal - 90% sure the S8 is covered assuming it's not over 10 years old yet?
£399 for 2 services, last time I checked when looking for our S5 so includes 1 major and 1 minor
Can't remember the last car I had with plug leads - must've been 10+ years ago. Yours has unit coils so no leads to change, just a loom sending power and signal to fire to the individual coils.
I gather with the fixed price servicing you can supply your own oil in exchange for equiv. value for other items not included in the service plan. For a 2 year service plan it manages to exclude many items that most of us would probably consider should be included if they're due on time grounds....

Thanks Adrian, no, car is just about to become 9 years old. I'll ask about service plan. Mine is on long life servicing not fixed so assume it is a major every time? I do an oil change every year. Last service was a full one and was intending same again this time, done about 12k miles since last one.
Definitely worth checking, although a quick search on audi site suggests the age limit might be 5 years, not 10 as I thought

Audi claim they'll price match on servicing, but it does require you to obtain written/e-mailed quotes elsewhere so for a major, major service it might be worth ringing round for some quotes and using those to beat Audi dealer down? I find it slightly distasteful though....I'd rather they were more competitive in the first place!

Local TPS http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/ gives me a minimum of 5% discount, usually 10% and sometimes 25% or more. That way you can guarantee they are genuine parts and don't pay RRP at the dealer
Take a look at
http://www.audi.co.uk/owners-area/servicing-mainte...
£375 for full major inc. plugs and air filter.
No point supplying oil at that price! Bit of a loss maker for Audi on the S6/S8 but take advantage

As Mr Tickle says, it's not worth bringing your own oil at that price.
If you do try to take your own stuff in, the garage will take the service out of the fixed price regime and charge you full whack. I tried to get a price for a minor service when supplying my own oil and filter and it Audi Manchester wanted £10 less than the fixed price offer.

They're wrong, the link above says it is included in the fixed price service regime except for discs and pads
My local dealer quoted me for an in-house service plan for 2 years at about a grand, in preference to the Audi scheme at £399 and weren't at all bashful at their omission when challenged on it.
I'd ring Audi UK customer care and explain it's in today and that their web site seems to contradict the dealer's view and ask them to sort it between them today before you collect the car.
If you're not satisfied don't pay the bill until the service manager has been spoken to by you. I signed off a bill for our S5 which turned out to be 50% higher than it should've been (I didn't have the quote with me, but did have a very bored 4 year old in tow!) and it took weeks of phone calls to resolve and no point until after I'd given them a '1' for customer service was there anything approaching an apology!

This is the email response I recived when I questioned Audi'so labour only rate at approximately £180 for an oil service when I supplied the parts and oil:
"I would agree with your thoughts that on the face of it the prices with and without oil do appear out of balance, I will if I may explain the pricing of the various service options that influence our estimating and quoting system.
The standard listed oil service cost on your vehicle is £387.95 inc VAT, this is consists of 1.1 hours labour (£151.80) and parts / oils (£236.15)
The offer price of £189.00 inc VAT on your vehicle consists of 0.80 hours labour (£110.40) and parts / oil (£236.15 before discount)
In any service package offer all elements of the parts, oils and labour are taken into account before a final and hopefully attractive customer offer can be presented, this offer will be structured to either beat or be competitive with other comparable service providers, it also when taking account of all the elements of the offer has to be a commercially viable proposition which the £189.00 offer is, however if any of the offer elements are removed then the package ceases to exist and prices and quotes revert to standard labour times, parts and oil prices.
As you can see from the above details the savings in opting for a £189.00 service are considerable, however you may also like to consider the Audi £399.00 service plan which covers the cost of 2 consecutive services (1 major service & 1 oil service)as this option gives you even greater savings and should you decide to sell your vehicle the plan can be used by the next owner."

so my dealer has opted out of the servicing plans - go figure that's not what they told me - what was stated is your car is not covered under this scheme
I have called Reading Audi - and they don't offer it for 5.2 v10 !
Did anyone have this done in and around London and would be willing to share their reg plate with me so I can investigate further ?
My pm's don't work so I will provide an email address
