Looking at buying an Octavia to replace our 1.6 petrol Focus so is there anything I should look out for in particular? A mate of mine reckons there are a few rogue TFSI engines out there (his A4 is being studied by a dealer at the moment for it's oil consumption).

Also, what is the real world MPG on them? The Focus prob does circa 35mpg for day to day journeys but nearer 40 on long runs. I would imagine the Octavia would be a bit less but can anyone comment?

Thanks all

Pre or post facelift (~2009 I think)? Pte come with the EA113 belt can engines which are very reliable generally, post come with the EA888 which have had some issues with excessive oil consumption, chain tensioner problems and the like.

Thanks all, sadly I think the Octavia is off the menu now - looking at a 1.6 Focus now!
