On 2 occasions after a shortish journey (15 miles) ive noticed a cooling fan staying on after turning the car off.
Ive not looked at which fan it is as it has been dark but as the missus normally drives it im concerned its the start of a problem.
Im aware some cars fans stay on after turning the engine off but not sure how long these are set for, all temperatures are normal when this occurs and air con is turned off.
Any info would be great.

Diesel?

May have switched it off during a DPF regen.

Diesel yes, no indication of regen taking place on dash lamps.

Cooling fans continue to run for approx 5 mins if you switch off during a DPF Regen. Perfectly normal and there are no dash lamps that come on during a normal Regen Cycle. You can tell when it's happening by an increase in idle speed, runs a little rougher and there is a sensation of heat☺

I will monitor it, last time it happened the idle was normal and no abnormal heat or smells to report.

On our 2011 A3 TDI the DPF regen signs are so subtle, the fan running after switch off is the first we have known it was taking place.
