Assume you're talking about 2.0 diesel? I have the 1.4 petrol, known as ACT (active cylinder technology) in a MK7 Golf, same engine as I understand it. I'm getting 43.0 MPG over 7 months and 13k miles - this is a company car and those calculations are (sadly) based on a spreadsheet.

No, it's not as good (MPG) as a (2.0) diesel, even taking into consideration the lower ppl cost, but when I test drove the two back to back there was simply no comparison, IMO.

Great engine and I'm glad I made the choice I did.

The 1.4 TFSI COD can't match the economy of the 2.0 TDI. However its a sweeter engine and for low mileage users makes more sense. This has been discussed in a couple of other threads recently (possibly Leon related I think) with some good owner feedback.

Be more than happy with 43 mpg. Anyone know what the diesel actually does

Think my 2.0 diesel is at 58mpg, that's about 25% dual carriageway at 70, the rest round NSL single carriageway.
