The clutch on my 59 plate 1.6 TDi Golf judders when pulling away. It seems to be worse when it's cold, or after lots of stop/start activity in traffic. If you're careful with the revs and ease the clutch out slowly, it's fine, but if you try to pull away fairly quickly with more revs it's worse. It's the same with a hill start, although that revs related too I guess. There's no clutch slip at all. The pedal also seems quite stiff. I drove an Audi A3 2.0 TDi last week and the clutch was much lighter, and it's the same with my mum's 2.0 TDi Skoda Yeti. Is this a sign that the clutch is on the way out? I plan to sell the car later this year, so I don't want to lash out circa. £800 for a new clutch and DMF unless I have to!

What sort of mileage is it on? I've noticed these tend to need a new Clutch and DMF at around the 80k - 100k mark. The judder is quite common on a lot of 1.6 TDIs once they are a few years old.

i have a golf 1.6tdi bluemotion and its the same. on 83k and suffering bad judder when pulling away. its been like it since ive had the car ( around 30k)
others in my work with the same car have remarked how heavy the clutch is.

so its not just your car, i would hold out till you come to sell. mines been fine up to this point.

Thanks for the replies. It's on 98k miles, so the clutch must be fairly well worn, although it's done mainly motorway miles since 53k. I'm just hoping it'll hold out for another 6k miles or so.
