Audi S1 Tyre Compressor

I was on my way out to buy a new foot pump for the tyres when I spotted an air compressor under the boot floor.

Question: are these only to be used in the case of a tyre repair (there is also a repair kit; no spare or space saver) or can I use it just to check tyre pressures / top up from time to time?

The one in my mk6 golf is just a boggo compressor (ive never tried the gunk can with it) which I regularly use on my own and other cars.

I used the one out my A3 to do my bike tyres. As long as you don't hook up the tub of goo it'llbe fine.
