Just to be clear, reverting back to my original post, I'd prefer manual from a personal point of view, and what I believe will be more desirable from a residual value stand point; I don't doubt it is excellent.

The R-Tronic models actually had a c.£1k advantage in the glass book last time I checked.

It's horses for courses

Some people will not consider a manual, hence why manufacturers are phasing them out.

People simply stopped buying them frown

Audi UK sold <10 of the last 'Plus' models; including a press car and a couple of demos. You can't make any money doing that as much as Pistonheads/Jalopnik would love them to continue.

I saw this linked on RS246.com, if I was after a V10, i'd be all over this I think:

I would be too, if it wasn't for the brown interior (not my thing), but does look lovely and maybe the interior is amazing in real life.

everyone who has seen it in the flesh has loved the interior - definitely something that needs to be seen to be appreciated

We've an S8 here for a service in the same colour combination; universally the same comments.

Easy to turn your nose up at the idea of brown but looks fantastic when you see it.

That would imply snobbery and looking down on brown interior, but that isn't the case, it is as equal as any other colour, just not my personal taste. I'm sure it is great though, and had it have been a manual (again, personal taste) I'd go have a look in the flesh.

Tbh If I didn't already have my r8 v10, I'd have bought the one mentioned above as it's basically the same as mine but lower miles.....it looks a stunner and I think cocoa leather looks ace (cocoa sounds better than brown!)

I asked Audi UK about this after seeing a few pop up in the classifieds. It is pretty much my ideal R8, but currently little out of my price range frown

They informed me that 18 manual Plus cars were sold in the UK.

They even kindly told me the colour split.
Customer Cars: 1 Sepang pearl, 1 Matt Sepang & 1 Ice Silver
Demo Cars: 6 Sepang pearl, 1 Matt Sepang, 3 Daytona Grey, 1 Brilliant Red, 1 Phantom Black
Stock Cars: 2 Matt Sepang, 1 Panther Black

It's a shame so few were made, although the S-Tronic box is absolutely fantastic in the Plus.

Dk.....how long did you own the car I've now got for?...was it trouble free during your ownership as it has audi warranty but I've been unable to get info regarding any work that was done under the warranty....it's always handy to find an ex owner!

It's chestnut brown wink

I only owned Elmo for 6 months, and he was faultless as most V10's are.
I regret selling him when I did, I only did it to try a Spyder which I did but whilst roof down + capristo was epic, the red black combo is just stunning.

Here he is on one our fond memories

Glad to hear it was a beautiful friendship. ...so far so good in my ownership too.....I've done a basic detail myself and the car looks stunning.....zaino products sure make that red *pop*!

If you happen to want to sell the capristo let me know please

Also, purely out of nosyness, how come you have so.many r8s....are you in the trade...or like me a serial car changer.....but I guess if it's the latter it seems odd to buy the same car again and again!

Capristo gone I'm afraid

I'm not in the trade, just a serial car changer. I have an XF S 3.0 to do the miles in.

I keep coming back to a V10 R8 as pound for pound nothing comes close hence why they have stopped depreciating

Bump. :-)

Came across this thread as I'm keen on having a V10 R10 one day, and reading about your experiences was really interesting.

Any thoughts on what I might miss, or what it drives like compared to a GT Porsche? (Currently in a 997.2 GT3) I am guessing the V10 engine dominates the car and that an R8 will be a good deal more civil? I enjoy a car with an 'edge' and go on track fairly regularly and I'd be keen to continue doing that. Can the R8 hack circuit work? For that reason I've been looking at the Plus for the ceramic brakes, but i reckon i'd miss the manual change big time!

Otherwise a standard V10 manual with an exhaust, some alcons, and some proper sticky tyres might be the way to go?!

Thanks in advance for your insight chaps! thumbup

I've owned many Porsche GT cars and V8/V10 R8s. The R8 is much more of an everyday car. Something that I loved about it. The V10 engine is amazing, incredible top end and noise. The car has amazing grip but will move about and bite if you are not careful or experienced with a car going at such speeds. It would be an okay car for track work, but definitely only with S-Tronic. The manual is amazing, but it's a pain on quick down changes, especially 3 to 2. On the road the manual is a thing of beauty. Clack clack as you change gears. A GT3 has a touch more steering feel. But the biggest negative of the R8 would be the over servoed brakes.

If you want a road/track car stick with the GT3. If you want a road car that you can track very occasionally then the R8 would be a good choice. I would have one over all but a 991 GT3 as a road car.

Go drive one. Find a decent road and redline every gear through the manual box. Bet you buy one!

Hey Darren, I missed this post first time around - that's actually a great bit of trivia. I only had any idea on numbers from the long-term report in an issue of Evo mag. At the time they would still have been in production so make sense there are more than I thought.

It's also (to my mind) the perfect R8 but even further from my budget than it is yours! wink

Cheers DMC, that all makes much sense - I do need to drive one at some point, preferably to the redline in every gear - just to be sure i agree! ;-)

Good insight on the gearbox choice - totally agree that its hard to beat a manual on the road, but on track you kinda do need those fast down changes done for you if you're not a heel'n'toe god.

I will report back if I make the switch one day...
