I've been watching the classifieds for these cars and they have started to rise in value quite sharply. A couple of years a go I would see quite a few 'clapped out' or modified cars around driven by youngsters. Now, I have seen hardly any and the from the one I do see, hardly any of them are very clean.
It appears that lower mileage cars - under 100k are getting quite expensive and collectible which is a bugger for someone like myself. I have hardly seen any low mileage examples for sale at a reasonable price and I have been looking for some weeks now.
Even went to Gti international last month and the ones for sale there weren't really as good as what the price would suggest or the cleaner ones had high mileage..

I think some people are asking silly prices for 80s-90s cars right now

It's bonkers to me that people are advertising Golfs GTIs for over £5k that are >100k mileage, no rebuilds, lots of old "original" parts that really would need replacing if you wanted to use the car frequently.

To be honest, I'd be far less interested in mileage and focus on finding a good shell!

Id only consider buying one if I was loaded and wanted to build up or add to a collection.
I enjoyed every minute of owning mine but could never justify going back to an 80's or 90's car as a daily driver unless it was a bit special.
