Mine's lost over £20k in 10 months and 9k miles from list price although I'd suspect you could negotiate £5-8k of that at time of purchase. A6s seem to be ripe for deals but the 3.0 BiTDI is a relatively rare variant amidst a sea of 2.0 dullness.

I took a mate out in mine on Friday evening.

After about a minute he slowly turned to face me and said "I thought you said this was a diesel".

Great cars, with huge grin inducing torque.

Rassi & Raven,

Great feedback from both of you. Its really helped to push me in this direction. I would map the car though, you should too smile 350/720 - yes please.

Got to see 'mine' in the metal yesterday and took it for a test drive. Looks great, one very small chip that will be rectified before I collect it on Friday, what I didn't quite appreciate was how good they sound - youtube vids really don't get it across. It's not quite a V8 petrol but it's a million miles off the V6 diesel in my A5.

Roll on Friday!

Iain,

Wait until you drive it Sport mode (slide the gear lever across left from D). It hangs onto the gears until the very top of the rev range and positively howls through the lower gears. It is lovely to drive on the paddles in this setting and really feels like a DSG box. By the way, shifting across into Sport turns on all the dynamic settings (engine, exhaust and steering as well as gearbox) automatically.

Mondie, Audi have pretty much shut down the option of keeping your warranty on a re-mapped car. Their technicians don't even play a part as the diagnostic units do a check sum test whenever your car goes into a dealership. Search TD1 for details. A re-map doesn't really bother me as it will take me quite some time to get bored with the power these have as standard.

Coming from a 420 bhp M3 I can honestly say that the BiTDI does not feel slow, though the delivery is of course completely different with a wave of torque and seamless 8 speed. Remapping is not on the cards for now, not lacking at all in firepower.

Congrats to the new owners. Great to see some interest in the BiTDi on here as it's a bit of a sleeper from an enthusiasts perspective. I think it has far more character than the 535d, especially with the sound generator, but it's just not as well known.

With regard to the depreciation comments above, Audi have offered generous 'deposit contributions' on A6's for several years now and anyone buying new should get a 20%+ discount provided that they take Audi finance. This is bound to affect residuals.

The car definitely comes alive in full manual mode (gear selector pushed to the left), which gives you full control over gear changes and keeps the torque converter locked up at idle. You can also unlock the S6 laptime menu if you have audi software and the right cables (available on ebay), which includes a boost gauge (always on with the BiTDi) and the flashing gear change lights in this video:

Residuals look very strong to me. I was looking to buy a used one but a deal through Carwow got me over 20% discount. I got a new car for what I was going to have to pay for a good used one.

Not relevant to the bi tdi in particular, but having done 12000 miles in my A6 I traded it in for my new S4 and the dealer have put it up at £29980. I paid £31125 originally through a different dealer via carwow. Does make buying nearly new seem pretty crazy!

Arse, feck and bugger.

They decided to do the checks this morning prior to me picking it up in 3 hours... only to find it needs new pads and discs all round, earliest delivery of the parts Monday. Downside: extended wait; upside 10k fewer miles on them.

Is it me or does 10k miles seem a little short? Sales bloke, very apologetic, but didn't know what the cause of the fail was - could be anything from wear to corrosion.

The brakes are the same as the S6, just without the red calliper logo.

If it's only done 10k miles, they are probably corroded due to insufficient use. I'll bet the discs aren't cheap as they are massive.

Surprised they aren't kept in stock.

Can't you take the car and drop it back for the discs when they are in stock?

Wasn't given that option which is fine but disappointing!

Fixed price on the brakes in £700 in total according the the website - that's for the 3.0l+ A6 though, not sure if it's any different for the BiTDi.

Worth asking if they will do that. You get a weekend of fun :-)

I can wait - I get a few years of fun to anticipate a bit longer this way!

With a little bit of the service manager meeting targets thrown in - dealers like crucifying cars on PDI and the technicians are trained to pick up on every tiny detail; particularly if it earns them a bit more labour bonus. They are probably suffering from corroded bells which will happen again in 6 months and is purely cosmetic. At 10k miles they're very, very unlikely to be worn out.

Thanks - useful insight! Car doesn't show any signs of wear, tyres in good nick, not a creak or rattle so fairly confident it's not been someone's secret track weapon smile Sales guys did suggest it was likely something minor but that fell foul of the checks so pretty good peace of mind really.

I saw your post earlier today Raven and it really got me thinking.

We had been considering a 3yo Black edition with reasonable miles, a rare find in itself and around 28/29k. If I can order a new Black edition at 20% discount then the depreciation in 3 yrs is about the same as what I had planned for a 3yo car. A Black Edition with Sports diff and heated seats is about 53k, less 20% gets it to 42k. If that's worth 29k in 3 yrs it s tempting proposition. Looking again at the pics of your car just reinforces my thoughts.

Iain - it will be worth wait (he says having never driven an Audi smile )

I specced up an Avant, Black spec with the toys I really wanted - £57k list - best quote through carwow was on finance and £14k off list - £43k. Stunning but over £100 per month over what I was willing to pay. Mine was on the forecourt for £40k - a bit of a joke at 9 months old and 9k miles given the new price. At £33k it made more sense smile

Seeing the car in the metal and the test drive just confirmed that it's the car for me for now.

Iain,

I am taking my chances on carwow now, got 2 offers since last night. Around 17% off for cash and 21% with finance. We would prefer to pay cash so am hoping a dealer somewhere can get to 20+% off, if they do I think we will be ordering. Specced about 4k of options which should give them more room to move, option list as it stands (and it keep changing)

Sports Diff
S Line super sports suspension - anyone got this? I know Audias are known for being hard but the facelift is supposed to be much more forgiving
S Super sports seats (want electric seats which are a NCO with these seats)
Metallic paint- Daytona Gray
Heated front seats
20' twin 5 arm alloys (PQJ)
Light Pack

Thought about the tech pack mainly for the better screen but its too expensive. Would be a fantastic car if we can find a deal with that spec. Fingers crossed.

Cheers
Simon
