I hope Msportman doesn't go on any sailing forums!

These cars and their depreciation look like bargains, in comparison.

It's a full set of 20" alloys, tyres, centre caps, wheel bags and presumably the TPMS sensors - all fully balanced and just swap over.

Was a good chance to give the 21" wheels a thorough clean before storing for the winter.

Another advantage is that I can get any kerbed wheels properly refurbed this way without having the car off the road - though so far these have been pretty resilient to the magnetic roadsides...
Good to know thank you phil.

I don't think anyone is flippant about buying a car of that value on Pistonheads. Certainly not a sweet shop purchase.

We are all enthusiasts and enjoy the cars, most will have worked very hard and saved in order to afford such a car. When I was a young lad I saw a guy interviewed on the tv who had a Ferrari who lived in a normal house. How did you afford that they asked - he said he did not drink, smoke or go on holidays for x years or spend it on a big house and other things. That stuck with me and so worked towards the same sort of thing. At uni I walked to uni each day for 4 years because I worked out that the money I save on bus fares after 4 years would be enough to buy a return flight to Hong Kong. so I walked and I flew to HK. The same with cars - you work out how to get where you want to get to and try and do that.

So hopefully nice cars should not breed resentment - its how that person looks on life determines a resentment or ambition.

Be assured spending £86k list which is £73k in reality after discount is not a light decision and im sure all on here will have built up the cars to get to that sort of level. im not putting in too much each time. If it goes wrong I can sell the car and get a fair chunk back if I have too
I don't disagree with hard working people saving up or using PCP if they wish.

It only a small minority who can afford these objects of desire though but sometimes it does surprise me on different forums how many people have the means at their disposal.

Having owned various relatively expensive premium branded new cars or 2-3 year olld performance models most people in my street own and run mundane transport. In fact ithe price of these cars you can buy property with relative ease in poor old Somerset.

Having lived in the isle of London it is stark contrast in earnings where you tend to see such nice expensive cars. For me I'd only ever could afford a used 3-4 yr old example after the bulk of depreciation has done its work.

I've been looking at a used 3-4 yr old M5 for my next purchase now they've come down to reasonable prices. Has anyone compared these to the RS6 in performance terms?

Im towards the top/end of my working life but when younger also would only have 4-8 yr old cars. Toyota corolla 1.3 auto in gold - Hmmm lovely feel the power.... or Nissan sunnys or almeras...... etc and like you and being a pistonhead always aimed for the next car up etc and been lucky to have most of the classic top performance cars in my time. Had an M5 e39 10 yrs ago or so but it broke a lot so didn't like it. (still have a Nissan GTR itch) Its only recently that ive been able to go for new.

RS6 v M5 quite different cars in how they drive but if you have a look on youtube there are a lot of comparisons of rs6 v whatever - each car will have its + and - points. I m keen on a RS6 as never had an audi, need to tow a caravan, need to take kids to school on the way to work but want some poke and noise along the way. mid range grunt is rather good. would have preferred a new E63 AMG but it wont tow, M5 will tow but not an estate so RS6 is the best option -

As you've noticed most people out there drive mundane things - but they just use a car as a transport that costs them money not an object of affection/fun/desire. They don't get it that its fun to have a performance car that's why they have mundane things. Heck even my old 3 door Nissan sunny zx was a 1.8 twin cam and a Q car - it was a hidden hot hatch and drove well. GF/Wife hated being in the passenger seat & couldn't understand why I liked the car until she drove it herself and then enjoyed it. Beaded seat covers.....hides head...... smile

I have a similar questions. For me the BMW M6 is much cheaper than the RS6 on the used market. I wonder if the quattro is worth having in a high performance car. I feel it is however I find it hard to reconcile the difference in price.

2012 M6 approx. £45-47k.
2014 RS6 approx. £58-60k

Saw a 65 plate RS6 in tolworth yesterday, they look great, definitely an option when my M5 goes back in~12 months,

main issue is the PCP deals are rubbish when compared to the M5 or E63, with the same monthly cost the deposit seems to be an addition £25k! Given I have no intention of keeping a car longer than 3 years this seems a bit rich

I agree the M5 deals are better, when I bought mine the deal was very good and a good bit cheaper than my current RS6. I picked up my new RS6 on Friday, WOW I am really impressed with the car. The way it puts its power to the ground is fantastic, non of the BM's drama, just nail it and go. I liked the fact that the BM would spend most of its time sideways but it got tiresome.

Although more expensive than the M5 I think its worth it. Mine is on Air suspension and its just about limo comfy and quiet but if you want to play bang it into dynamic mode its a difference car again.

M5 is a great car, RS6 is a fantastic car, on saying that if I lived in a sunnier climate where both cars could put the power to the ground it would be much closer but the RS6 would still edge ahead. I am not talking power and speed I am talking overall enjoyment and how the car goes about its business.

Depreciation will be your friend if you don't mind waiting a few years biggrin

I'm currently contemplating a C6 RS6 at about £30k. The initial depreciation on the C6 variant was eye-watering for 1st owners, but has tailed off significantly in recent years to the point where mileage seems to be the most significant basis for valuation except for some over-priced 'Plus' models.

A C7 will definitely be on my list in a few years smile Enjoying the S5 Sportback at the moment

I actually prefer the driver involvement as got bored of point & squirt with my GT-R so wanted something I felt I was driving & not being driven in, but I do get the point. I chose the M5 initially as comparable price wise with Audi I could only get an S6 & I knew even if the RS6 was a touch quicker in poorer weather than the M5, it wasn't ever going to be worth the extra outlay, which when I bought was significant.

Had I been buying today where the OTR prices are closer & Audi are now supporting the car with better lease deals & the C7 was available as a Saloon I may have returned to Audi, but it wasn't to be. Also a bonus that the FL cars are better spec'd, as that gap was also larger when I was in the market.

Both fabulous cars however & although they go about their business in a different manner, it's a nice choice to have.

As has been discussed on here, it's somewhat of an oddity as used price vs. OTR price the variance isn't as great. The £50k M6 that list would have been £90k was in reality sold for £75k, whereas the £60k RS6 probably listed at £85k & sold for £80k, however today new it could likely be bought for £68k now Audi are supporting the model.

The RS4 looks even better with the blistered arches but is a very inane car even by Audi standards. Also, against modern competition it is a little slow.

Besides, you can no longer order an RS4 as the new A4 is out.

Hi Guys,

Currently looking at getting a RS6 and after reading through the forum I looked on Carwow and have discounts back at 15.5 based on finance being taken out and a standard list price with no extras at the moment.
I actually popped into West London Audi today and built a car I would want (Nardo/21's etc) and this came in around 85k.
I wondered what kind of discounts people are getting on a car of this cost based on a out right purchase and finance?

Regards
Dafydd

Hi Dafydd,

Use the configurator on the CarWow or OrangeWheels website just like you did at the Audi showroom - discounts using finance will probably be around 15.2 - 15.3% based on your spec... I found the more options you added the smaller the overall % discount (but not by much). If you were to outright purchase the car and not go for Audi finance you'd lose the £7k contribution, so your discount would probably be closer to 7.5% I would guess... possibly easier to take the Audi finance and pay off immediately with your own finance if you wanted to.

Great thanks for this and forgot to mention the pay back early route.
I will probably await until tomorrow for some more traders to contact me prior to presing the button with one, which ideally is a local trader if they are able to match the cost.
West London have some build slots for March registration which would work well, time will tell!
Cheers

I see the RS6+ is available to configure up. Not sure if it has 3 seats in the rear or just two. The only promotional material Ive seen shows 2 seats in the rear. Understand 10% discount for RS6+ -v- 15.1% discount for vanilla RS6

I'm pretty sure the rear seat pics that have been put out by Audi are of the RS7. Check the rear windows.

My 'standard' car is sitting on the docks in Germany - get it loaded!!
