any thoughts on the standard suspension?
Hi superlightr

I'm going for the standard air suspension, Leo-RS said it was good and that has been mirrored by every review I've read online (and I'm pretty sure I've read them all!).

Good your local dealer matched the quote. My local dealer up here would only go to 8% (including finance) - managed to get 15.2% through Orangewheels and will enjoy the 429 mile journey home in the new toy - I expect we'll have bonded by the time I get back hehe
Agree - all the reviews said stand is fine. Plus I have to tow.
If picking up from Brighton let me know if your anywhere near for your pickup as we can say a quick hello with the 2 cars. ! lol

Much the same - towball is useful for me. I'll be less than 25 miles from Brighton wink

The M5 spec is pretty damned good in standard form, although there are a few things you could add...

e.g. you could pay £460 for piano black trim (std on RS6)
hk sound at £510 similar to Bose
powered boot lid at £430
split folding rear seats at £335
multi function m-sport seats at £875
or the adaptive LED headlights at £1495

A lot of the other options are similarly priced to those on the RS6.

The 0% finance deals on the M5 are also pretty attractive and the current finance / dealer contributions come close to £10k discount. I specced one up and it was about £5k cheaper than the RS6 (before any discounts were applied) but for me, the fact the RS6 is an estate, has 4-wheel drive and looks like the mutt's nuts were the deciding factors! My brother in law has a F10 M5 (his second after the first was replaced on warranty with engine problems) and it is a stunning car.

beer
The Bootlid & Split Seats are only cost options as the F10 M5 is Saloon only. On the E61 M5 (Estate) these were not cost options but were on the E60 (Saloon).

Seats i'm not sure about as they're an option seat, but i don't believe the C7 RS6 has an option seat. The M5 has the M-Sport Seats as standard but the Multi Function is more of a Comfort Seat (it's a lot bigger & less Sporty).

Adaptive headlights are standard as is the rather clever Adaptive Mainbeam, but you're correct that LED's are an option as they were on the C7 RS6 before the facelift.

What were your Brother in Law's engine problems? My first F10 M5 was rejected due to as i later found out a faulty fuel rail, the replacement has been rock solid, even with a Stage 2 tune.

Not now thought the face lift has more kit. LED lights are free etc. BM lights are a joke. but then BM heads up is free, Audi is expensive.
Other than LED's becoming standard on the facelift, what other kit became free? What's wrong with the BM lights? Other than being non LED as standard, they're by far the cleverest adaptive setup i've ever experienced/seen.

I'm not too sure. The engine kept on going into limp home mode as far as I remember and after multiple visits to the garage and weeks and weeks off road they eventually conceded defeat and BMW UK swapped the car for him.

Have to agree. The adaptive Xenons on my F31 330d Touring were great - the high beam assistant was a magic bit of kit. If the LED lights on the RS6 are any better than this I'll be very happy indeed biggrin

They are better. Audi RS6 lights are akin to the BMW intelligent LED system, one step up from the xenons.

I've never yet been in a car with LED's so as yet have no idea what the benefits are. The intelligent system is standard on the newer M5's without LED's, but I've no idea if it's still present with the LED option.

Don't use it much on mine as although it's always worked perfectly, it's kind of an odd feeling having main beam stay on all the time & I feel drawn to switch it off.

I haven't driven a car with beam shaping xenons, but the adaptive LED's on my M5 are superb. It's a pet hate of mine for other drivers to have candle-like headlights and/or never use main beam on A roads - with these LEDs the car in front sits in a little pool of darkness which dynamically shifts as the cars move, with my lights extending far beyond their own to either side. It would be interesting to see what its like from the point of view of the car in front. I was a little sceptical about ticking the box at £1400 over adaptive xenons but they are worth it in my view.

I've wondered the same thing. The driver in front must feel he is going to get 'beamed up' at any moment.

I have these fandango lights in my lowly golf GTI, they are amazing and something I keep going on about to anyone that asks me about the car. They can be a bit distracting when you first get them going as you can end up looking at where the light is moving about to.

I've decided they are that good I don't want another a daily driver that doesn't have them.

There are adaptive Xenons, LED headlights and Matrix LEDs. Are Matrix an option on Golfs already??? They aren't an option on any A5s yet.

Are they not the same price as on the Audi pre facelift?

Let's not forget that Audi only introduced these as standard about 6mths ago i believe. I've no idea if/when BMW will do the same, but as the F10 M5 is nearing the end of it's lifecycle i doubt they will. Audi facelift a car (& add the Plus/performance variant) late in the lifecycle, but for whatever reason BMW do this earlier so the F10 M5 facelift (LCi) was at the beginning of 2014.

Are the C7 RS6 LED's the Matrix variant of the standard LED's?

I think you are getting confused with high beam assist? I'm pretty sure that Golf's don't even have LED headlights as options yet, never mind Matrix?

Don't know, mine will be Facelift so free. BM you still need to fork out £1400. but then HUD is free on the BM and £1400 on the Audi. I did like HUD on my M5 bit of a gimmick and not worth £1400

You are correct the lights on the golf aren't quite as fandango as the ones on the A6 but they are a similar idea. They put the car you're following or oncoming traffic in a dark box allowing you to project light beyond them.

Very clever stuff.
